Absolutely gorgeous bike! Great job on the restoration!
I had the orange metal flake '73.
Loved that bike.

Thanks

plippo - I used DupliColor Caliper Paint (Black). Shot it when the temp was about 50degF. Any warmer and it dried too fast. Good luck on your project/restoration. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks! I had proposed Duplicolor Caliper paint in my thread about Frame paint, but I did not get much suppoert - I have used Duplicolor Black Glosss Automotive Enamel, bu I am not satisfied of the results - it is too dull..
Are you happy with your choice afterwards, in terms of fading, chipping when accidentally touching with tools etc?

The Duplicolor has held up well in the past for me. Touch-ups aren't a problem. Another alternative is the Eastwood Chassis Black, shot from a gun. I've used this also with good results. Of course; you could powder coat, but the original finish was painted. If your not going to show it and be judged; I'd powder coat it.

Thanks. I really enjoyed this project.

Every chrome piece is either NOS OEM or re-chromed (Brown's). I purchased a new CB750 engine case to match the color. Duplicolor Silver Caliper paint is the color that best matched (couldn't tell the difference). I have since sold the case. When I got this bike from a good friend years ago; I started to purchased parts that I thought would become obsolete (front fender, seat, exhaust, cam chain tensioner, wheel rims). The front fork ears were the hardest to source (got one from New York, the other from the Netherlands). I tried to pay attention to the details (found the correct 9mm font to replicate the inspectors stampings on the case halves and on the front of the engine during assembly). The project took about 17 months, most of that time was spent trying to find parts.

Awesome work! It looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

Thanks

The Gilmore show is coming up this weekend. I've been telling myself each year "I'm going to enter next year". Well... its finally happening. I've put some finishing touches on it.

The tach/speedo in the previous photos were aftermarket ones that looked good, but weren't period correct. For example; the trip reset was coming out the side. The original is out the back. I had disassembled the originals, cleaned & lubed the internals, reset the mileage, new overlays and tested them. Up to this week I didn't have a good way to hold the bezel in place to put every thing back together. Then there was the dreaded bands to put back on.

Here's some details

Read on the forum where others had used 4" PVC, cut in half and hose clamped together. So, off to the hardware store...
Ended up finding a 4" PVC sewer connector. The ID was a little too small.
(wrapped the bezel in blue tape to protect the powdercoat)
Image

Machined the fitting on the lathe so the bezel fit snug
Image

Now it was just a matter of holding everything together. The fitting held the band tightly also. I used various screwdrivers to bend it over, little bit at a time.
Photo was taken after the fact with a different gauge, but shows how it was held. Not sure what happened with the original photos... think they went to megabyte heaven :-?
Image

Finished
Image

Keep in mind this bike doesn't see the light of day much (personal problem, I'm working on it...)

Hadn't started the bike since May, and it needed to have the carbs sync'd
Image

Image

Image

Got underneath it and the oil sump cover was asking to be shined up a bit.

The engine runs strong. I've put about 50 miles on it.

that is very well done, i'd love to get my hands on one myself, but in this country people want too much for the old un restored wrecks, so you have to have a bit of luck to get one at a good price

Looking forward to seeing this beautiful build Sundays in Hickory Corners. Are you bringing any other bikes?

Thanks guys. I've been looking forward to this for a while.

Its a busy three days. Yesterday was the Vicksburg car show Cruise-In. Didn't get out of there til after 10pm. This morning is the Gilmore vintage ride. The GL1000 will get a few more miles on her :-D , and then tomorrow is the Gilmore show. Temps in the 80's on Saturday & low 90's on Sunday, no rain, should have a great turn out.

Fred, The 750 will be in the Masters Judging and the GL1000 will be in the Show Field (in all her patina'd glory). Look forward to talking with you.

Nice!

What did you use as temp tank hanging there for the sync process?
