Well a lot of you know that my last report on my yellow 76 started to have a bad rod bearing on #4.
After adding a different motor that end up being bad with another bad bearing I said to heck with it and decided to rebuild the motor that came with the bike. Just the main bearings, rod bearings, new primary chain and some fresh chrome molly rings.
Took me two months to get all the right rod bearings from people here and half way around the world. But I got them.
I started putting things back together this last weekend.
Next I need to lowering the case and installing the other two pistons. Just need a free weekend to do it.
Added 1100 primary chain tensioner.
Will try to keep up dated as I been having to work a lot.

Before I got her she was a one owner bike with some history, he puchased two yellows for him and his wife for there honeymoon (had sold the other one), she was in a magazine once, travel all over the country pulling a homemade trailer in the mid 70s and thru 80s and then was park in garage in 94 were she was retired at 56000 miles . After that she saw 2 floods witch the only damage was her exhaust and muffler (this is were I think what might of weaken the bearings). I purchase this bike a few years back thinking it would only be a parts bike and that she would never see the road again, like we see so many of them on ebay. So I start pulling thing off her (Bates fairing, samsonite luggage and many other things) and found that she was worth saving.
Here is some things I found pulling the motor the first time.
NICE!
Kinda got wet. This had to be from the flood.
But in the long run she ran great for me for 3 years. So I'm giving her some cats lifes.

Nice to see the inside of the engine!! I am taking apart evertything on my yellow 76 EXCEPT the engine, hoping that it is still OK, If not, I will have to pull the engine out of a totaly rebuild bike (Planned November 2011):P
What was involved for the primary chain tensioner? I am guessing the case has to be opened to do it.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Here's an update for today.
I manage to get some time to put the pistons in the other side of the case but I have not seal it yet. I try putting sealant on it and sliding the case with pistons but it was a %@#&$. The sealant started to dry before I could even get the pistons in cylinder. So came up with a way to help me get piston in with hose clamps. You don't want to make them tight just enough to compress the the rings to so it will help slide into the cylinder and drop down. Much better then using a screw driver to push them in and having the rings move out of alignment.
Also us some dial rods and long drill bit to help with lining up the case. Sadly they wanted to brake except the big one but it help.
After the case was lowered and piston were slid into place the hose clamps fall down around the rod. Then I took a driver and pulled them off
Now I just need to put gasket sealant on it and close. I will do this tomorrow.

What kind of sealant were you using? The stuff I use will stay plyable for a pretty long time. You would have probably an hour before you might begin to worry about it.
Good idea on the hose clamps too for ring compressors. I have a set just for that but I've never used them. Screw drivers work pretty well for me.

I was going to us yamabond but found out that it was 5 not 4 and you should use 4. So I used ultragray and a lot people have used this on other cases on other bikes.
What is the stuff you use.

Thanks, I used a regular compressor for other piston and clamps for closing the case.

The stuff I use is ThreeBond Liquid Gasket 1194. Pretty much the same as Yamabond, Kawbond. you do have quite a bit of a window to work with on these. It may get a little hard on the surface but it is still pliable.
An hour may be stretching it but I would think you have plenty of time to get the rings/pistons all in and still will be ok.

Thanks, I got it this time. You really need two people to make easier.
