Yes I am working on putting EFI on my 79 GW.
I will probably start a new thread on this soon, like when I have some pictures etc.

This all started a while back when I purchased a LDwingnut manifold and put it and a pic 30 carb on my bike. It runs okay but has some limitations,, long story.. I wound up with 2 of the manifolds in the process.

I have purchased a throttle body, injectors, injector bungs (top and bottom), Fuel Pump, Fuel Pressure Regulator, O2 sensor (MSD 2330).

Correction, I had the MSD 2330 ordered but I can't seem to get one. Had to cancel it.
So, I have changed the O2 sensor. I now have a Bosch 13942 on order.

I am still working on the Coolant Temp. Sensor and the Intake Air Temp sensor.

I plan on running one throttle body on a modified LDwingnut manifold (highly modified). The one I am working with now is off a 1998 Ford Escort. The injectors are Bosch injectors and rated to flow much more than needed for the GW engine, but you want them over-rated not under-rated.

I plan on welding injector bungs in the Honda manifold elbows to direct fuel close to the intake valve.

So far I have spent about $350.00 on this project and still have to buy the computer.
The Microsquirt computer is $400.00. I also need to get coolant and intake air sensors, they are not over $20.00 or so each.

Sorry this is a long post, but you asked, I still have some fabrication to do and some testing. Hopefully this project will be complete sometime this Spring.

If ethanol is used is increasing amounts in fuel, we will have to convert too EFI .

Yes, one big advantage of the Megsquirt/Microsquirt technology is that you can map several different fuel types if you want and switch fueling maps as neccessary.
You could have it set up for pure alcohol and for regular gas.
Also altitude adjustment is automatic so riding to the mountains is not such a big deal, of course you will still have some loss of power at high altitude.

A lot of us have older wings that have a lot of miles left in them, my 79 only has about 33,000 miles on it now. So, I think it is worth the investment for EFI.

Does anyone know of a coolant sensor that has metric threads like the fan switch hole on the GW-1000???????
I think it is 18 mm x 1.5
The GM sensors are 3/8 pipe thread.

That is for a fan switch replacement, I do not want a fan switch, I want a Temp. Sensor. It will send the temp. to the Microsquirt. I will have the Microsquirt turn the fan on and off.
Maybe the actual temp sensor for the Geo has the same threads.???
Do you know what model Geo that is??

Duh!!!
I just figured out today that a 3/8 Pipe thread is pretty damned close to the metric thread where the fan switch screws in on the GW-1000!!
So, the standard GM sensors that Mega/Microsquirt like will screw in the hole. Just have to put a little extra teflon tape on it.
Sensor on the way with connector from who else.... Ebay of course ;)

Geeesh! We have these ultra cool retro simple machines with no computers, almost no smog junk, no computer controled anything and all you want to do is make them like the high tech whiz bang complex machines some of us are trying to avoid!! Of course youze guys do what you want with your machines (your welcome) but for me, the beauty of the early wings is their relative simplicity and what they acomplish with, by today's standards, very little high tech gizmos. I'm not really upset, I just get tickled when gearheads, and I'm one, are always trying to make something else out of their equipment.
Of coures I'm as guilty as anyone, my first car was a 64 Ford Econoline I thought I could make into a fast, great handling sports machine. It had a whopping 170 cubic inch six, three on the tree and 13" wheels. Zero to 60 in about 20 minutes, 1/4 mile times in the 10's ...of minutes. I also tried to make my first touring bike out of my Suzuki 250 dirt bike, home made fairing and bags, radio, CB, ...that didn't work out too well either. :orange

Hey that is a valid observation and I have no problem with it. That is exactly why I tried the VW carberator. The OEM carbs on these ole machines are too damned complicated for what they do, IMHO.
Of course some people will dissagree (Randakk etc.). But even some of them have come out with alternatives to the OEM carbs.
I am trying to make a system that will run my bike for several years to come with ever changing fuel.
At the same time I want to make it run as good or better than OEM.

The bottom line is, I am having fun working on it, and maybe it will work.

More on parts;
I did not mention above the MAP sensor Manifold Air Pressure. The Megasquirt come with one on the board but the Microsquirt does not. The standard 2 bar sensor from GM is what you need. I just got 3 of them for $15.85 to the house.
I also have the tempurature sensors on the way for $25.00 Total. That is Coolant and Intake Air Temp. Sensors.
So far I have spent about $400.00 on parts etc. I am hoping this comes in for less than $1000.00 for the project. I will try to give a good parts breakdown and cost in the future.

A whole lot of the parts needed can be aquired on Ebay and at the junque yard for not a whole lot of money if you just know what to look for.

The changing fuel bit may be one of the most legitimate reasons I see for exploring other carburation methods. I am not sure exactly how far they are going to push this corn water gas crap but I am certain that they are not done yet. I see days in the future like the days of Prohibition. You will have to go to a special place and "know Johnny" and with a wink and a nudge you can purchase 5 gallons of "real Gas" sold out of moonshine jugs!!

Of course the Fun/knowledge factor is what always gets me to back down on the argument against alternate carburation methods. After all that is what wrenching on these old machines is all about action1 action1
