I am having what might be cooling issues, and I was wondering wether I put the thermostat in backwards - can it be done? I seem to remember it only fitting one way - pelase tell me I am right. I don't want to pull that radiator again.

So it can't go in backwards without some doing, right?

I just got my bike back from the Mech, and it is running hot - the temp guage shoots to beyond the "h" very quickly. IF I were to check the guage, where do I check to see if it is getting 7v or not?

The fan is jumped to run constantly, and I don't know what else to do. it was a long riode this afternoon. any ideas? Things to check?

Thanks,
J

I am not sure if it can go in backwards.... but another possible problem is not orienting the little hole toward the top... this allows the bubble of air to get out.... big bubbles of air are not your friend when it comes to circulating the coolant

I believe it CAN go in backwards. Easy way to tell is run the bike, then carefully(it will be hot), gran the hose and feel it. If it is hot, water is going thru it.

You could just take the thermo out and see if it heats up.

Yes you can put thermostat in backwards. I don't have a picture handy.
But I'll see if I can dig one up later. Also make sure the vent hole is on the top when you install it.

I took a look at mine that I have apart.
Yes the t stat will go in backward but it has to be positioned just right so the spring support part clears the fan sending unit, otherwise the housing wont go on and would likely leak.

Maybe you can remember having to turn the t stat to find that certain little sweet spot that would allow the housing to go on?
