My Brother's New Standard 1980 GL1100

#1

Post by drcroog »

I made the mistake of sending an interesting Kijiji Goldwing link to my brother

I do this periodically when I find a Goldwing that catches my eye and this one stuck with my brother

It is a Standard 1980 GL1100 with what appears to be Interstate bags and was located in London

It caught my eye because it looks very similar to my Standard 1980 GL1100 that I also found in London and has only 35,000kms on it

Now I can't buy any more Goldwings since I have hit my limit and would like to stay married so the next best thing is to refer them to my brother

He only has one Goldwing and isn't married so the sky's the limit

The next thing I know I'm driving him and his son to London today to "look at" the bike

We arrived at the seller's place and he pulled the bike out of the garage

The bike was in great condition and since my brother and I are both Goldwing guys and haven't seen a Goldwing in natural light for months now, we were hypnotized and didn't ask any of the right questions or look at any of the right parts. The owner started it up and it made vroom vroom noises

Just a little back and forth and my brother owned it

Problem: it was snowing, the temperature was minus 6, and we had no trailer

The roads were clear so with a little testosterone fueled rationality, he decided to ride it back to Kitchener

I was trying to take pictures from my truck while I was driving but it wasn't very safe. I had to put my beer down

We stopped at every Tim Horton's on the way back to warm up and to wiz from the previous Tim Horton's. I don't know what the wind chill was at 100km/hr but I was glad to be inside my truck as opposed to outside my truck. It did stop snowing though

We finally got back to Kitchener and I had to pry my stiff and hypothermic brother off the bike and send him home. I haven't heard from him yet so I hope he didn't go into shock

I'll keep the bike in my garage with my Goldwings and hope he forgets about it when spring comes

Not likely he'll forget about it after a ride like that.

Thanks for taking me along on the trip!

Well, the bike can't be in too bad of shape if it made the trip... And what a trip...("I had to put down my beer...") Hope he gets to enjoy a few warmer rides, as well...
