A picture of the bags would help. I've made brackets to hard bags out of 1/16 steel plate and out of 1/2 inch tubing. Use the top shock for the front mount and the grab rail bolt for the rear mount. Depending on the weight of the bags and what you plan to carry you may need to devise a way to keep the back lower corners from rubbing on the tire.

Yea I know Rebel had some on the first run and he lived out of them from Toronto all the way back to Reno. He had to rig something up to keep them out of the back wheel as I recall.

Here is Cookie's excellent solution done up on a 75.One piece of aluminum strap from the seat mounting bolt running down to the exhaust tip, held on by a u-clamp at the bottom.I added a cross brace halfway up and bolted the bag to this. Some cap nuts and it's all good! lolol

I made some brackets for my soft bags on my GL1000. I'll take some picts tonight and post them here. I had two requirements,
1. The bags had to come off easy
2. The brackets had to come off easy
I think they look pretty go and seem to work.

I see you're in Albert Lea, I'm in Fargo.

Later,

Bud.

I was trying to come up with a mounting system that had two ideas.
1. The bags needed to be easy to remove
2. The brackets need to be out of the way and easy to remove

Here's what I came up with.

Bags - An old set of Willy & Max leather saddle bags.
Stock - 1/8 x 1" flat
3/16 x 1 1/4" flat
1/8 x 1 1/4" flat
5/16 round
1. I cut the cross piece off the bags (the leather than went under the seat)
2. The vertical bar is made from 3/16 x 1 1/4" flat
3. The bottom horizontal bar is 1/8 x 1" flat
4. The upper u-shaped horizontal is 5/16 round
5. The bag L-brackets are made from 1/8" flat

I welded a flange nut into the turn signal mounting point for the vertical to bolt to and the bottom horizontal bolts to the passenger peg.

I then welded a bolt head to the bottom horizontal and cut a key-hole slot into the L-bracket. The key-hole slot goes over the bolt head. There's a loop on the bags near the top that loops over the upper u-bar.

There may be some changes coming but overall I like how they turned out. With the bags removed the brackets don't stick out at all. And like I said the bags are quick and easy to remove.

Here's some more picts.
upper mount.jpg
The upper mont in the old turn signal mount point.
brackets - bottom.jpg
The bottom of the L-brackets. The key-hole slot is a little rough. I think I'd make the brackets out of aluminum next time.
rear view.jpg
With the bags removed, very sleek.

And by the time I add material and my time, the ones you point to probably cost less. But that's true of most things.

Good luck,
