I purchased a Danmoto Nano for use on my Gl1100. Here is how I mounted the speedo.

I chose to mount the sensor on the rear wheel so I could hide the sensor and wiring mostly. I decided to mount the sensor on the underside of the swing arm. I have not tested the unit as yet for accuracy, but will report back on my findings.

The system uses a " Hall effect" set up. Basically a magnet and a sensor used to detect wheel speed.

First I glued the magnet to a stud on the rear wheel brake disk.

I then measured and fabricated a mounting bracket. The recommended magnet/sensor opening is 3mm.

I then tapped a hole to mount the bracket on the underside of the swingarm

Then mounted the bracket and adjusted the sensor to the recommended gap.

Hooked the wire from the sensor to the wire from the Digital unit.

Set the digital unit to a 16" wheel.

All done!

That's using your head. Let use know how it works. I was looking for something dif. for my "creation" and that just may work.

That sensor looks a lot like the proximity sensors we used on all of the special machinery we built when I was working as a set up guy at a knob factory, it probly responds about the same when hit by a fast moving price of something. So maybe put something in to garrentee there is no way for the bracket to swivel and let the sensor hit the rim. Or maybe it can swivel and not hit anything in which case it will only stop working. Just a small observation, been watching no quarter come together, great bike nice fabrication.

Cool. You will be able to tell how fast your tire is spinning in a burnout.

LMAO Hydro, that there is funny. Good point on the bracket. It cannot swing into the wheel the way it is mounted, however a shot of epoxy under would not hurt a thing...

Sunbob thanks for taking the time to document this project.
I have looked at several variations of the LCD digital speedo & I am allways wondering how easy is it to see in direct sunlight and how easy is it to process digital data rather than glance at a needle?
please take this out on the road and give us all am impression of useability.
Can you read it with a quick glance, in traffic?

In bright sunlight ( my shop has three skylights and floor to ceiling windows) I can read it quite well. At night I can read it REALLY well. As for the mind processing of digital data, I prefer a needle to a number. The tach shows as a bar, the speed as a number. For this bike I dont care, it has a speedo to comply with the law, otherwise it would have only a temp and oil gauge. Now, those pesky turn signals and mirrors....

And there is another DanMoto 180 degree cluster, on a 1984 GL1200 that also has a hall sensor. however installed on the front wheel. I made a small bracket as shown to attach it and too the head of one of the brake rotor through bolts and flattened it with a grinder then epoxied the magnet to the bolt. And I can say that it is as reliable as the math of the person installing it as the circumference of the wheel is the amount that you are supposed to program into the gauge. Mine was not true at this setting however I have been adjusting it using gps speedometer and gps on my phone speedometer. and i found that my setting was 374mm different than the math said. The circumference i found online at a tire website was 85.50" or 2170mm for a 130/90-16 tire. However my setting for my Gauge cluster has to be 1796 not 2170 in order to read true. This was also checked with a combination of vehicles with cruise control. But the gps i found to be the most accurate and that was the final tuning tool.

That being said once the demons are exercised i love this gauge set up. I still have to figure out the whole temperature gauge sensor ordeal as on the gauge it buries before the fan even kicks on but I will figure it out eventually, i am gonna have to get a new sensor but i don't know which one to get. The fuel gauge works great and the rest of the indicators and gauges are perfect just the coolant temp i need to fix.

Best of luck on the Nano i have heard good things about them in the sport bike forums!
