you can use a 1200 wheel, or the whole front end, you can also go wide (glide) forks modding a yamy v-star front end

Just finished my single carb conversion using Tom's DFT. Was able to get some heat using the stock 1200 air tubes, some 3/8" copper tubing and a little 3/8" fuel line. Without the heat my vw plenum was cold and I had a flat spot off the line. With the heat, the stumble is nearly gone. The plenum is no longer cold, but isn't warm either. I need to increase the amount of heat transfer a little. I have done no carb tuning except for idle speed. Really could not be happier with the results. I have around $250 in the whole thing, and have way more bottom end torque than I was expecting. Runs smooth. Starts right up. The throttle linkage was the hardest part of the whole thing. My '87's stock carbs were in need of a full rebuild and I stumbled across these forums when looking for rebuild kits. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, or to recommend the conversion to anyone facing the expense and lost riding time that I was.
I didn't join any of the forums prior to my experience, but now feel an obligation to share my results.

Another great thread. I don't completely understand all the references to heating the plenum or the need to do that, but I will see if I can dig it out of some other threads. Thanks to all.

dude who sells the carb with this background
http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/about/

has this to say
http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/tech/w ... -manifold/

then you have folks who claim the above is irrelevant for gw use,

this thread pretty much sums up gw & scc to date

Hey, thank you. I read the first two and browsed the last. I will dig into it more. Good stuff.

I ended up re-jetting up a little and it made a big difference. Keep in mind mine is a 1200, and the various Goldwings seem to respond differently depending on displacement, elevation, temp., etc.
Heating the plenum, even a little, is helpful. I think a warm plenum would be best, but I'm not quite there yet. The grid heater made a big difference too, even when it's not powered up.
