Ive found a 79 standard in my area that has a single carb setup, also comes with the original carbs. Ad states the bike runs ok... My question is, are these single carb manifolds worth anything? I was thinking I could sell it and recoup some money spent on the bike. Or are the single carb manifolds a lot better than the stock setup, thanks.

Single carb setups are entirely subjective to the owner as to whether they are better or not. Some swear by them, others would not own one. Most single carb setups will not match the stock setup for Wide open performance and idle quality but they seem to do fine for normal cruising. Depending on the condition and make of the setup it could be junk or worth a couple hundred or more.

Some single carb manifolds don't appear to be designed very well. Others look pretty darn good (see the thread on HOTT's build of Ole Sparky and the thread by Don_Karlos on his build). I guess what it's worth is what someone will pay for it. A heated center plenum and/or intake runners seems to be a definite plus.

What kind of single-carb set-up is it: homemade or manufactured?
The design of it is the deciding factor IMO. Some are certainly better than others.
Heat is mandatory as far as I'm concerned, but I'm a bit biased as mine is perfect...
Mine equals factory performance in most areas and exceeds factory performance in some other areas.
Aside from its design, superb quality of construction plays a part as well.
Depending on the carb used, most have difficulty in simply tuning what they have.
...which brings the issue full-circle, oddly enough.
At least you've the factory carbs to fall back on, assuming they're usable...
There's a reason that single-carb set-up is on there with the factory carbs on the bench or in a box.
