Re: Diamond in the Rough: My 75 Goldwing
Time to put the wiring harness back into the bike.
I am having difficulty finding the way the harness routes. I have downloaded the FSM but it does not have a clear picture.
Does anyone have any good pics of one sitting on a frame?

Re: Diamond in the Rough: My 75 Goldwing
That is about the best there is. The main wires run on the outside of the shelter frame. Then into the frame and along the grove in the fuel tank. Then behind the battery box to the solenoid. Long wire just in front of the fuel tank goes across to the brake switch on right side of bike. wires with funny connector go from battery box area up to the fuel sender under the seat area. wires at the tail end of the harness go up under the seat to connect to rear fender and tail lights.
Bikes at present:
83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process

It has been a while but I think you need to put the shelter frame on before you get too far with the wiring. the main cable goes onto clips on the outside shelter frame. That green ground wire will attach (in stock arrangement) to the mounting bracket of the coils. Looks like the harness is in unusually good shape. Must have spent its life in a garage and not out in the weather.

Thank you. I got it figured out today. And yes the harness is in surprisingly good shape for being 42yrs. old.Easter wrote:It has been a while but I think you need to put the shelter frame on before you get too far with the wiring. the main cable goes onto clips on the outside shelter frame. Re: Diamond in the Rough: My 75 Goldwing
I stumbled upon a thread the other day about the diodes in the 'Wing, so I decided to test my 4.
Turns out 1 is bad!
Does anyone know where to source a replacement?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Diamond in the Rough: My 75 Goldwing
I doubt you will find a new one but if you buy a used harness you will get four and some of them will be good.

Darn, I was hoping there would be a parts substitution I could throw in there, kinda like how we do with the radiator hoses.Easter wrote:I doubt you will find a new one but if you buy a used harness you will get four and some of them will be good.

Re: Diamond in the Rough: My 75 Goldwing
Ok got the bike all wired up and the battery in.
Hit the ignition and the starter turns!
I don't have a headlight, does that only come on once the bike is running?
Other than that, the neutral light seems to stay on all the time, I don't understand that...
Also my right hand switch has an extra wire that was taped off since I've owned the bike, I wonder what that is supposed to be for...

Sounds like you have some electrical issues to work out. Headlight should be on unless the starter button is pushed. Get a schematic and follow the wires
