Here's an odd one for you guys.

I went to test the neutral safety switch this morning and with the bike in neutral, the switch has continuity to the frame like it should. With the bike in gear, there is no continuity. This tells me that the switch is operating correctly as it should.

When I tested the switch I unplugged the connector from the main harness and tested it.

These electrical gremlins keep getting stranger and stranger.

My wiring nightmare has only gotten more confusing.
Got both turn signals to work but only when 1 is hooked up reverse and it doesn't act as a marker light and it doesn't blink as fast as the other.
Then the headlight works but high beam is actually low beam and low beam is high beam.
Then the neutral light is on but when I check continuity on the switch itself, it's open like it should be and the rest of the wiring isn't shorted to ground but yet the light is always on.
And the kill switch is completely reversed but switching the wires makes nothing work.
So I removed the start switch and jumpered 2 connections for the start button which should only work when the kill switch is on run but it works all the time even with the rest of the wiring for the right hand switch disconnected.
I am so beyond frustrated. I have no idea what is causing my issues. All my grounds are good.
I do not know what to try.

Just be happy knowing you'll get it figured out, but if like me, you still won't understand 'lectricity. I think I recall the same issues as you describe. Keep guessing and checking unless you have a diagram.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I took the Puppy to a shop & paid lots of money for an expert to work out the electrical "ishoooes."
I counted over one hundred wires emanating from the wiring harness & environs. My brain can't acquire, can't adapt, can't accommodate, that many "things." Plus, I had some beer to consume.
If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.

I do have a diagram but it doesn't appear to match my harness 100%. That is unless, of course, I am reading it incorrectly.

I thought about that but the "lots of money" thing really turned me off...

All electrical issues remedied!

It was a combination of an aftermarket, non oem style start switch and dirty connnections in the left hand switch.

Glad that's all figured out!

Very slow goings here. I lost my job unexpectedly which of course dried up all funds for the GL1000.

I have a few interviews tomorroe so I hope something pans out.
