I am taking a $300 UGLY wing and turning it into a Ural style adventure bike.
The sidecar is being made from scratch and will be heavily armored as will the bike itself.
I've included a photo of the bike itself as it sits today, and a few "inspirational" photos of what i hope to accomplish.
We will be using this as a test bed for new ignition curves, so we'll have a rotary switch on the handle bars. We can select from four different curves to match the conditions we find ourselves in.
Our company logo will of course be in a few select spots to help us promote the new GL1000 and GL1100 ignitions we just introduced to the motorcycle public.
My friend has a Chang with sidecar and we hope to do overnight camping trips in Wisconsin and Michigans Upper Penninsula.
We also have a receiver hitch in the sidecar and will carry a winch for pulling ourselves backward if we get somewhere we should not have been in.
Has anyone installed skidplates on a GL1000 and we'd love photos of how you mounted it.
We will run Kenda Big Block knobbie tires and of course, i am making the sidecar body fold open so its my tent. I am too old to sleep on the cold ground! I am choosing a U.S. military theme for the paint job. I am open to suggestions on what type of equipment to install (shovel, gun scabbard, fuel/oil/coolant cans, other items needed?)

Re: Suggestions on Offroad GL1000
I'd love to have a two wheel drive (almost bought a Ural back in the day just for that) but not sure at all how it could be done on the Wing. It would have to also be affordable since I no longer get a weekly paycheck as a store manager. Self employment can be tough on the wallet as we get started...lol
Can it be done? I am very interested.

Re: Suggestions on Offroad GL1000
Cool. Looking forward to seeing it.
If I may make a suggestion... For the tail light on my bike, I used a military tail light HMMWV humvee style from ebay.
I used the tail light bracket that was on the bike and made a plate to mount the light on. Did a little wiring, took out the black-out light lens, and put in LED white on top due to the red lens and red LED light on bottom. Bottom (black-out light) has clear lens after you remove inner black-out lens. Also put a bit of tinfoil behind red LED on bottom so that it reflected out better.
Hooked the top up as the running light and the bottom as the brake light. Had to use some of the parts from the old tail light to mount it the way I wanted, but it worked out nice. I like it. As for the cooling barrel look for the exhaust... Jut cut down the pipe extensions, drill a bunch of holes in it, scuff and paint. Then stick em back on.

Good old necroposting.
I gave up on my project, too many irons in the fire. Gonna sell it off.
