I completed one more thing on the TO DO list. I got the valve cover emblems painted black. I used a small brush and gloss black enamel. I wiped off the HONDA letters with a paper towel wet with laquer thinner and a small piece of wood. I was very happy with the results. I used four coats.

Ernie,

I was going through some of my old mufflers that were rusted out today, that I was going to throw out and I remember that you were looking for some baffles. So I manage to get two of them out with packing. It was not that easy. :IDTS: That screw is welded in and the srews broke but you can re-drill and tap them out. Also accidentally cut a 1/2 in off one (don't ask me how confused22 ) them but it will still fit inside the muffler slot. If your interested.

Here a pic.

PM sent. What held the packing in place while the baffles were inserted in the muffler tubes?

It was raped around the baffle. One side of the baffle hold one side and the muffler hold the other side were you insert the baffle.

That emblem looks better than when it came from the factory. Nice!

I got my last piece of the puzzle today. I bought a nice set of baffles from Rod Willis. Thanks. I cleaned them up and they look great. I should have new packing Monday and then can install them. The bike is running good. I filled it up today and its getting 34.4 mpg. I know some of you guys get great mileage, but that is the best I have ever gotten on any gl or my Valk.

You are still doing too little riding and too much fiddling to get good mileage, but 34 is great miles during the fiddling period. So 45+ is in the works for her.

I got my baffles a few days ago and yesterday I got the packing I ordered. I cut a piece of telephone wire about a foot long. Then I stripped the insulation to leave a very thin copper wire. I wrapped three pieces around the packing to hold it in place while I inserted the baffles in the mufflers. The bike sounds the way it should now!

After the baffles were installed, I was going to re-time and re-synch. I have decided however to leave things alone for now because the bike is really running great. What that means is that I am down to one last task. I still have to mount the info tag on the neck of the frame. I have purchased some very small allen head screws that I think will do the job.

Otherwise, SHE IS GOOD TO GO! I really love this bike. I have had a blast with the build and she rides beautifully! Every time out I think she gets a little better.

I would use some good waterproof adhesive with the allen screw so the VIN tag would lay flat. Maybe a couple wire ties, if you can get them around it, while the adhesive dries.

Yep. Just use a small screwdriver and carefully pry them out. I worked from the bottom and does not look like I left any marks. They actually came out pretty east. I used a couple dabs of permatex to hold them for sure.
