Taken my time restoring an LTD

I still have to clean out the bores, so once that's done I'll drop a dime...There's no rush now, since I got my NEW RIDE!!!!!

Once I treat my cranial rectumitis, I'll post some pix....

I actually have had a chance to work on this (and now I actually have the title in hand as well). The bottom section on the fuel pump was covered in peeling chrome. So I wire wheeled it to carefully remove as much flacks as possible, and powdercoated it the engine grey color.

It has a goofy case guard set up, which I am having to pb blast to try to get apart. But have discovered that BOTH the bolts where the engine mounts up with the heat shield were BROKEN...

Also powder coated the front master (awaiting parts for the rebuild)

my goal now is to get it running, and then in the future really tear into it and repaint the frame etc

the "wet spot" is where I have pb blaster, it is supposed to slide together, but it sure isn't sliding apart

so I have tried the old "vice grip" idea on those broken bolts.... so far... good guys - 0 broken bolts - 2.

When I got the bike it had a couple of "polished" fork bottoms to replace the pitting chrome ones, so I changed those out. Discovered there are end caps on the fork plungers (when I couldn't get one to tighten up from below).... also discovered one of the bottoms still had the end cap in it.

Anyone needing some notbadly pitted crhomed fork bottoms?

even with PB blaster, and then porpane torch.... the score.... good guys - 0 bloken bolt - 2. I am beginning to think that when some PO mounted those case guards they cross threaded these bolts and turned them until they both broke. At this point I may leave them and some day in the futures (once I get it running) I will take it all down (to totally restore and paint the frame) and at that point attmept again to get these out.

Still cannot get the case guard apart either. time for the cutting saw

Both of those sound like good plans.

the one nice thing is the GL engine is well mounted to the frame in several places (beside the broken bolts do stick out into the bracket). so it would not be a critical thing if they weren't replaced

got the front master rebuild kit from frenchy (along with brake lines) sooooooo

put the puppy together

only to discover the very first cup was still in the package

2 hours later I finally have the circlip back out and all the parts are back in

(powder coated the outside while it was apart)

went to put togther the front brake system. I knew the brake hoses from crscent moon would be a bit longer, but that is doable. but found also that the banjos are different, which is NOT doable. I have an email to them asking them to fix this. needless to say, not a happy camper




you would think.... oh that little bend cannot make much of a difference.... oh yes it does!

IO was wanting to keep this an OEM look... I do see that russell does have some black brake lines with banjo to AN-3.... could add a bajo to that AN-3 fitting and at least until you get close and see they are stainless, they would look OEM from a distance

Rodger, I got replacement hoses from SCI. They do not have the exact oem banjo fittings on either.
Here is what I had (I think original hoses):

I compared them to what is on the 77 and they appear to be the same as those hoses which I purchased from CM. ernie
