when you do the powder coating. what happens where there are machine threads for bolts/screws and the like?
do you put a place holder in there i.e. a screw or bolt so no powder gets on the threads or........?
Thanks.
I want to do a similar scheme. I love the old classic paint jobs myself.

The outfit that powder coated my frame was experienced in bike frames. They capped all threaded holes and everything else that looked like it accepted a machined part. They did an excellent job and I had no issues with powder coating contaminating any orifice during reassembly. They also included sand blasting in the price of the powder coat job.

Thanks tigre & Pony; my Ego can never get enough. lol. Threads and surfaces like brake pivot & race inserts can handle media blasting. Don't get me wrong, a heavy handed oil field sand BLASTER could make your swing arm look like a jelly bean. I use glass bead in my two cabinets. As far as the powder coat... it's masked pretty much like paint, keeping in mind it will migrate or attach itself deep inside places paint can't get to like inside swing arm. I kinda like that.'76 frame frt tan
Once it's dusted the tape is removed before going in the oven. Your local powder coat guy most likely has experience with frames. Things on a GL I would tell you to do is pop off the vin plate and make sure stamped serial #, rear brake pivot, and rear caliper anchor bolt hole get masked. Every thing else is pretty obvious. You will loose the vinyl coating on your cable retainers but easy fix with heat shrink. Ric

The weather is crazy here in Houston area. Shivering to much to pinstripe today. I know I'm a sissy to you guys in Seattle lol. So here is a look at my rear turn signal install; I wanted to minimize and clean up rear siggs. I drilled an ample size hole above the shock mount and used bicycle cable to pull wires though.
Add a little bit of vinyl tube to prevent chafing (I think we all hate chafing).
Ta Da !! So the question remains how do I mount my seat ? Pretty EZ fix but stay tuned and I'll post it soon.
the fixtures I'm using are after market jobbies from Parts Unlimited that come in a variety of styles. They all seem to have the same threaded mounts. Carefully thread into frame using clamp bolt backwards as a lockdown.Add a little bit of vinyl tube to prevent chafing (I think we all hate chafing).

Well it's been a couple of weeks, between the weather and my indecision the panel painting has taken longer than I thought. I've had no less than FIVE different colors and pattern combos. And I liked them all ! I chose this scheme cuz to me it looks fast and large with just the right amount of 'tude. I still have a lot to do. We had a little sunshine today so I rolled her out for some pix.
If we can't fix it, we can fix it so no one else can.

Pretty Damn NICE!
Is that flat black with the cream color?
Do you do your own pinstripes?
As in hand done?
Thanks.
After seeing your frame color It is right up there on my list to do my tins with root beer pinstripes no other color but the black/greyish frame.
