[/quote]Do you remember whose handlebars those are?
Thanks pago, confish asked me about those bars too. The model style is a 'Euro Sport' JCWhitney has them. I got mine local. you have to cut your own cable pass-thrus. Air grinder or Dremel helps to make them oval and smooth.
Appreciate the heads (tails) up on the red light. Ric

Old Fogey, Black & Tans... Very interesting history. An unsavory bunch hired to help the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary). Did I mention my name is Ric  (Twilight Zone music in backround)

I started with GL1200 headers and sent the vapors through a pair of HD 22'' muffs (salvage finds $100.00). The headers needed some mods to fit to clear kickstand and point tailpipes in the right direction.

Yes that is a zip tie holding the centerstand up. I used it while fab-ing a rubber bump stop.

The mufflers appear to block axle removal but when you pop the shock bolts out, the wheel drops down and the axle slips out without removing exhaust. Hey check out them shiny shocks and springs.

what kind of modifications did you do to the headers?

Thanks Fred hope to have some more here soon.

ZRX- Glad to have you on site drop us a post on Introduce Yourself. I guess you have a 1000. These are GL1200's (headers)
The pipes fit the heads fine I had to modify the dumps to point in the right direction. I cut straight thru the weld and reinserted the pipe. From there it was easy to put the header back on and point the muffler and tack weld. Stand back take a look from the sides AND back
When it's right weld'er up

I trimmed out a relief for the kickstand. Oh yeah, Clean up that rust before you put it back on.

Thanks JB, Sorry been gone so long gang, I strained my right arm to the point I couldn't use it for a month or so. No right arm=No cutting, No sanding, No tightening etc. Working real slow and easy. Just about done now, here are some shots of my front fender job. I have always liked the look of the CL350 front fender.
Image
I used a worn out cut off wheel (another good reason NOT to clean your shop)
Image
..and cut away everything that doesn't look like a CL350 fender
Image
Use some round head allens with nylock nuts.

And...

Just detailing her up now. Stay tuned...

I just found this thread. Incredible work!!!! Also discouraging LOL I don't think I could make something anywhere near that nice :) I'll be going for a much simpler rat bike to start with. You definitely inspire men though.

Hey M"Art,
Probably the most important thing about restoring is that you take your time, take plenty of pictures, read the technical posts, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Chances are that someone on this website has done it , is planning on doing it / or knows somebody who is doing it!!! Catch my drift? It's like the Nike commercial..."Just do it !!". You'll find it may be easier than you think. Don't be discouraged... :orange :orange :guitar :orange :orange

Thanks bum I appreciate it. Boy thats an odd sentence lolol

Well I figure I go too wrong with my non running wing. I will do my best to learn on it as far as getting it running and practice paint and stuff like that. Won't get too much into cutting and stuff. I think it will be both difficult fly into a rage and also fun action1 and if I can get something half way decent in the end I'll be proud.

Yup, the fender is pretty nice. Maybe some detail on how you cleaned up the edge after the cutting. Sure made good use of a GL1000 fender.
