Well at least the harness is off the bench and temporarily attached for lengths and positive "moving forward" thoughts... The back half is cut/snipped/tucked n taped.... L/H switch block, indicator/horn switch block is cut/connected and sorted.. R/H switch block is sussed for kill switch/coils feed and starter... Headlight wires/idiot light wires/brake pressure sensor wires all going in the right direction (forward)..

hmmm black..... hmmmmm
hmmm black.... yes! well from the GL1000 original wiring diagram the "active black" just tap back into the main "actice black" loop but is not the source of its power.. "active black" originates from ignition switch so my "guess" is not to connect it in yet.... when its running are behaving i can test the active black from R/R and if it show same power as main "active black" then i will connect it in .... THough i could be wrong and it the only plan i have to date..

And you suggest a fuse between R/R 2xred to/before battery ??????? original honda shows fuse "after" the battery.... is your suggestion a "safety" addition or an absolute requirement...??? im still learning this stuff.. Thanks ...

I'm pretty sure the black is the sense wire which tells the regulator the batteries state and charges it accordingly, when charged it dumps excess load. Some people wire a relay in there so the regulator does read actual voltage rather than the voltage after running up to the start switch and back. If it loses a volt through corrosion, the battery gets overcharged.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

that makes sense... instead of running elsewhere with lots of connection corrosion possibilties, a relay to turn on when the bike is on, and the black wire over to the positive battery (with a fuse of course) to read the actual power

that may explain the wandering voltage on my 78

After reading Eric's comment 5 times i now understand and see that it makes a GREAT deal on sense.....

The black from the R/R we assume is a sense wire to read the "systems" stated of charge not necessarily the battery's state...

Can/will anybody else disagree with fitting the black (sense) wire to positive terminal via a ignition feed relay and fuse ??.. As per below.. It would be nice to know if this method has been used before...

I have made good steady progress with the electrics and was confident enough to tape and fit back half. The new R/R fitted perfectly to the battery carrier and i piggybacked the "black wire rely with fuse" that was discussed previously.. (who can i blame if it dont work??).... Also the flasher can now resides in that cavity.... Chopped some wire off the Dyna Module leads and fitted new plugs/joiners (allround) There is also a (secret) provision made for attaching timing light/equipment..
Front half was coming along great, with finish taped up harness ..................... :IDTS: :IDTS: :IDTS:.... Until... OMG where is the horn feed wiring crying1 crying1 .... cut snip taping and re-engineer some wiring.... dancr dancr

I hate wiring (usually) but im glad im doing this as i have learnt heaps about basic 'wiring systems", well GL's anyway....

I have been plugging away at the front half of the harness with the Acewell Gauge and different switch blocks.. It might look horrid but most of the "functional" idiot lights are working...

Image.

I had an impossible battle finding Metzeller Tourance tyres here... Could find the rear but no matching front... So I went with Shinko E705? Similar tread to tourance but Shinko dont have a 140 for the rear so settled for a (whimpy) 130 .. After its fitted and can view clearance to the swingarm i might go for the 150 ???? :popcornx2

Stock rear wheels are made for a 130 tire. Putting even a 140 on actually puts less tread on the road.

I have just about got this wiring harness finished with everything working..... but with no engine running.... I suppose when its running and the R/R works as per plan the i will be dancr dancr

I might re-adjust the wiring "lengths" to head light and indicators (both after market) and whilst pondering this move i found the need of another "rubber reducer sleeve", as found at the battery box shielding coil wire connections etc...... Soooooooo..

I found some 24mm Shrink wrap that silps tightly over the plug    I thought shrink one end down !!!

Image

Well that worked a treat.. I sprayed a 1/2" pipe with chain lube and heated with heatgun then slipped it off WOW that worked..

Image

Then just for fun i thought the 1/2" was too large diameter so i stuck a spark plug in it and heated again... I pulled the plug out and worked the hot/warm bit with my fingers and in reduced slightly to about 10mm/or 3/8th.. This mean it will "capture" 6-8 wires and protect the plup...

The original rubber is on the right!!!

I feel as though i have completed the wiring, apart from the obvious and then what appears once its running....

Image

I got a bit distracted doing other essential bits on the path to completion.. I have now fitted the exhaust (not happy with it) and now the goal is to "start it" to check electrics etc...

Started to sort out cooling system today and decided to go with a 9"fan.... It probably has treble the flow than the standard fan so will give it a go.... I could have fitted without taken off the LHS shroud and 2 lower support/captured nuts... Forgive me for the "chop up" but because its was ready for the scrap heap i thought i might give it a new lease on life.... It has a leaky "tube" which i can fix by removing tanks and plugging/soldering... Also cleaning inside.... If it ends in a disaster after a pressure test then i will use another...

Well that 9" fan idea was a waste of time and effort with not enough "planning".. :crying :crying :crying I didnt reckon of the angle and moving the "centre" down closer to the belt covers.... I see now why the original is so high and offset ... Anyway had to go back and use original that is now fitted...

I have oil, spark, coolant, start button works, timing set statically, fuel up and primed and i know the motor and carbs work as necessary.... The flat/low battery will be ok in the morning....... So tomorrow is startup day... dancr dancr

Hopefully my electronic adventure holds up and all works as expected....
