okay, this might be harder than originally thought...
I can't find the headlight ear spacers anywhere. and thick rubber o-rings aren't going to be a good replacement. anyone know of a good source of used gold wing parts? as in motorcycle wrecking yards?
I only need the rubbers for one headlight ear. they're listed as honda part numbers : 51601-463-000, and 51622-463-000
thanks in advance

Send a PM to Old Fogey or Cyborg at Wingovations. If they don't have them I'll bet that CyclePsycho could come up with them.

Does anyone out there know the difference in fork tube diameter between a '79 GL1000 and my '82 GL1100? Just wondering?

So..... I finally found the rubber spacers that fit above and below the headlight ears for a standard GL1100 and have the ears on and the forks back in their rightful place. Now it's time to install the monster Suzuki 9" headlight bucket. Remember this thing used to be an GoldWing Interstate so it had tons of electrical connections running into the fairing/headlight area for running lights, cb radio, stereo, etc. Most of those will no longer be needed and I'm slowly working my way through an on-line wiring diagram but I do have a couple of questions that some of you might know the answers to right off the top of your head(s) There are two paired wires that run from the left handlebar switch area, a green and a blue with a black stripe. They either have to be for the horn or the left/right turn signal switch. Currently they don't connect to anything. Any ideas on what they do and what they connect to?

Am I doing something wrong? I had a long text prepared about the progress on the wing. I clicked 'submit' radial and nothing! Then I tried uploading a picture. Ditto. I know a lot of web sites have their own little quirks. Is this just a NGW Club quirk? Or have other member experienced the same things?

I have never had a problem with the NGW site. You said, "I clicked 'submit' radial and nothing." Did you mean redial? Are you on dial-up? That could answer your question.

So I got impatient and installed the newly painted headlight. Wow is that thing big! But I'm getting fonder of it by the minute. Now I have a few decisions to make.
-should I paint the timing belt covers or polish them?
-should I go with stock front turn signals or something aftermarket?
-should the rear turn signals mount closer to the tail light or closer to the seat?
Any input is appreciated.

Hey Marc,
No the files were too big. I assumed the site could handle a 500kb pic and resize it, and you know what happens when you assume.

Yeah, that's a bit large. Most of my pics are 800 px wide and end up being around 50 to 100 Kb.

Your bike is coming along nicely. It looks low and lean like that. Almost a shame to clutter it with winkers, eh? ;)

I would say stock fronts but do the covers in the yellow. Rears at the top of the shocks. Seems you have enough yellow, I'd go with polished covers.

Spent a couple of hours today locating the rear turn signals. Cut the standard turn signal posts way down and welded them to the frame rails just behind the shock mounts. Toying with the idea of painting all the turn signal housings yellow...but then again maybe not. Also toying with the idea of putting red turn signal lenses on the rear. Is that legal?

Polish them, you have enough yellow.

Hey,
does anybody know what year/make/model this turn signal post is from? I bought a couple of these from my friendly motorcycle recycler a few months back and need one more to fabricate some posts for the front turn signals on my wing. I would just as soon pick them up off ebay if they're pretty common.
and while we're at it is there an easy way to identify the turn signal lens? still thinking about putting red lenses in the rear turn signals on my wing.
thanks in advance,
mark
