VAINCRE PROJECT BLOG

#1

Post by sunnbobb »

A few folks may have noticed I have been rather active lately, giving glimpses of a new shop and purchases of Goldwings. I am finally ready to explain what I have been up to, and hopefully take you along for the ride.

In mid November of 2011, I struck a deal with a client to build a replica, with modifications, of the famous Octane Bulldog. The client and I developed an adequate budget and the project was started. I have titled the project as "Vaincre" - French for "Vanquished".

Several things needed to happen to get the project underway. The first was find a suitable space to work on a first class build. After hunting around, I found a 20x20 space with heat, bathroom, finished floor, and plenty of natural lighting. It is located next to a grocery/cafe and is very private.

After acquiring the space, I set about outfitting it with the proper equipment. I installed two lifts, additional lighting, work benches and an operations desk. I also installed a camera security system and a high tech audio alarm system.

While setting up the shop I began the search for a good bike to purchase for the project. I found the perfect bike located in Las Vegas, Nevada. I purchased the bike from Teresa Johnson in one of the nicest craigslist transactions I have ever had. (that's another story). I then arranged to have the bike shipped here by Wolverine Motorcycle Transport. The bike arrived at 11:45 PM December 12, 2011.

I wanted to have a documentation of the build, so I set up a video feed to take a pic every 30 seconds, and have begun a series of videos on Youtube.

I look forward to sharing the project with everyone.

Here is the first Youtube video complete with heavy breathing LOL and the live feed link. The live feed is only on a trail basis to see if I like the service.

I had a sneaking suspicion that might be your plan for this beauty.

Good on you, Sir.

That title sounds good ... Sir Richard.

Sir Richard of the Vaincre.

Very, very cool.

As I have followed a few of your builds in the past and noticed your attention to detail, I am excited just to see you progress on this build, and know you'll do a fine job, and keep us all informed as things progress. That is a fine bike you have for a start. but as a antique guy that loves restorations, it would take much to put that bike back to showroom. Good luck on this project

Went over the bike a little yesterday. Looks like we have a stuck fuel bowl (fuel dribbling out of exhaust) and will need head gaskets (antifreeze drops on exhaust header bolts).

Tomorrow I begin to take her apart. I feel like having a ceremony before taking off the first stock part. lol

Basically a lap top computer is attached to a camera. Software triggers the camera every 30 seconds and uploads it to the site. The camera was switched on friday and switched off friday evening. If you were watching it Friday evening, you would have seen Hampster and I hanging out going over the bike. Tomorrow I am going to start running it full time, that is, a picture every 30 seconds 24/7.
