I thought i might get off on the right foot and start a thread about my second wing project....
I was lucky enough to find a registered non running project here in Western Australia (way down under here) which has lots of blingy stuff and previous work done to it including re-manufactured "kevlar" panels and seat base. A lot of work for the PO (Ben).. Sorry Ben its all headed for the bin and the good original panels will be resurected.. Since purchase about a week ago i have got it running and idling, though it has a "flat spot" on initial full fisted twist and slow return to idle (758A carbs =76?? later) but all good with no mechanical noises to worry about.. It seem to have 160lb compression all round and after i ride around the block to check gears and stick the front wheel against the shed post to test the clutch, it will get pulled apart for the treatment...
I have taken lots of pictures but here is two of "before"
My Wing #1 Project.. Just because i like it and #2 will be a bit similar "style"........

I scored the old fairing from Ben that came with his original purchase, there was something rattling around in there and Ben thought it must be a blot or something like that, it was actually the ignition key #A47 which I was going to return to Ben when I could. I also have an electric fuel pump and mounting bracket (brand new) that I kept aside for Ben.
It is all yours now if you want.
Regards, Peter.

OK thanks Peter, i will certainly grab the key from you in the future... There is a convoluted electric fuel pump setup already fitted with a pressure regulator.. I will remove the lot eventually and fit a standard pump. Unless i come across something smaller, one peice and more discreet...
I removed the carbs today to have a look and sortout, with the endeavour to get it running better before make-over. I have to clean and polish and prep sooner or later, so while wating for bits now is a good-a-time as any... I found some anomalies that need to be rectified... Eg self tapers holding on the float bowls (stripped threads), chaffed and scored main jet orings, with a considerable amount of "crud" and metalic "bits" present... That little thingy thing valve that needs to be removed to be able remove the carby bank was loose .. And i have only started with 1-3 carbs....
I have not checked, but do the 758A carbs on this 76 motor required the solder and resize via solder and 1mm drill bit ??????? for better idle performence... there seems to be quite a few issues with these carbs at present but by Xmas..
Oh and i have again messed with the setting on my $100 camera that i found in a carpark.. Quality pictures from me well uumm could be better but i will get there one day....
I also have a spare set of 755A carbs if that is any help, they will need a complete overhaul kit, I think all the jets are stock and in usable condition.

Thanks Peter but these carbs 758A "match" the engine number eg 201 2220 meaning 76?. Hopefully i wont require your 755A carbs.. But what ever you do please, please, please dont throw them in that alloy recycle scrap bin !!!... I have not yet got my head around the carb variation between 75 and 76......... cams, jets and probably more differences but its only day 5 on Wing #2 and more is to be learnt im sure...........
The 76 carbs do need the air screws soldered and re-drilled. But to a different size than the other 1000's. Check on Randakks blog for that size.

Ok thanks Robin... I have done some research re drilling soldered air screws and having trouble finding a definative size regarding your above post re. "But to a different size than the other 1000's" , My research has revealed that 1000's 75-78? require a 1mm resizing.. Have i missed something..??
I have read about "different" cam grinds on the earlier models requiring the air valve jet mod. I am assuming the 758A carbs from a 76 GL1000 require the same modification ...
75 and 77 carbs require #098 idle air jet. Micro drill #62.
76 carbs require #105 idle air jet. Micro drill #59.
Only the 75-77 bikes need the mod. Not the 78-79.
All this info is in Randakks tech tips.

Its been a week or so chasing those electrical gremlins in #1 Goldwing and have had enough of it for a while so yesterday i decided to do a final Sync and final checks on this #2 project..
I was running perfectly yesterday!! but not today..
I knew there was a bit of reinforcement work done to the centre stand but, wow, i didnt realise how much... (low centre of gravity was a wing thing!!! Right.) There are also some ugly dents/crimps and squashed areas where the crash bar protections were bolted to the frame and over tightened... I intend to Powdercoat so they need removing but i could as a final resort used filler and finish with paint.... mmm maybe!! but not my first option.. I looked for same sized pipe in my shed for retifying/replacing problem areas particularly to squashed areas, but couldnt find the right dia pipe.... I will need to go shopping tomorrow to source some but dont like my chances.... 40yr old metric pipe is not usually at the local hardware..
I found correct material for frame (31.8mm tube) locally. 2mm wall thickness is thin but i tried 2-3 times with my busted @&se pipebender and results were RHS.. then wnt to local exhaust fitters x2 and ended up with LHS........ Not at all happy with results..
My plan C was to dolly up frame squashed areas to 32mm OD and puddle up the dents/lower points with MIG weld mateial which i have done and ground back and redressed imperfections.. It will eventually be an invisible/trustworthy repair under powdercoat.. Centre stand replacement tomorrow.......... Thanks for the offer of the frame Peter/Pedrotq, but i wont need it (yet)

most of these old wings which had sidecars attached have similar dents (cannot have the sidecar mounts slip after all) Fortunately the frames stand up well. BMW's of the same era often needed beefing up

I eventually got the counterweight/centre stand removed... On close inspection it was way off square and rotated forward 5-8 degrees.. It certainly would have never failed again with all the reinforcement... As i expected you can still see the "centre line" of the original cross support... LHS is obviously centred around subframe support bolt so replacement position to original place was easy..
Although my plan/idea wont require/need a centre stand the next person might so it was not a biggy to refit it..
Now the frame is ready for the powder coaters (i think)... Need to sort out other bits requiring PC
My 79 is rotated forward like that. It makes it darn near impossible to get it off the center stand once it was on
