82 GL500I suspension

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

82 GL500I suspension

Has anyone any opinions on a creaking/ snapping sound coming from under the bike ( has Pro-Link monoshock ) . I have not determined from where but I suspect the pivots of the links or even the swing arm bearings. Seems to ride and drive great. It there any typical maintenance, Lubrication normally required that I dont see in the manual schedule. I am looking for peoples experience with this that might help me narrow it down. It does not appear to be shaft or final drive related but I am open to suggestions.

Over my head (easily done), one of our cleverer guys will be along soon.

In the meantime you could try posting on the CX site .....

Hello, The most likely cause is the pro-link mechanism. You will have to drop the exhaust to remove some of the bolts, hopefully the bolts are not seized in the bushings. Lots of good info on the CX forum site.you can also download the complete Factory Manual from a wiki there. Not too bad of a task, I'm getting ready to service my 81 GL500 for this season. it has the same squeak.

I restored one a few years ago and the pro-link was rusty and some of the parts were seized. I had to take it all apart, cleaned regrease and it work like new, no more noise.

Thanks
It appears to be the prolink as suggested and the CX forum people had some great write up too. Will just have to take it apart

Thanks Sidecar
I may jump in next to the suspension next weekend. I am slowly getting it together. I sold My 600 Shadow and that frees up a few more nickles to buy silverwing parts.
