Just bought an '82 GL500 Silverwing Interstate for my first bike. Took the MSF rider course with the wife, and decided to take the plunge. First project - stator. Also cam chain and mechanical seal while I'm in there. Plans - remove fairing, repaint in a candy red and silver two tone, detail the heck out of it. Some customization too; definitely new (metal) fenders are on tap. Don't know if I'll make them or adapt ones from a different bike. Also bought the short trunk from a non-Interstate Silverwing for around-town riding because I love the look. Picked it up on Ebay.
Looking forward to trading knowledge on this thing with you guys.
Longtime 4 wheeled hot rodder here. Biggest problem with bikes is that, after hot rodding, bikes look small, simple, and cheap. MBS makes perfect sense! Already had MCS (Multiple Car Syndrome).New (Silver) Wing owner

If you're planning on riding two up with the wife she'll appreciate it if you leave the fairing on. Trust me on this one.

Re: New (Silver) Wing owner
I do NOT plan on riding two up with the wife. Not because I don't want my wife with me, but because she has a bike (actually two) of her own! She actually has been restoring an '80 CM400T for a few years but like me had never ridden. So last month we both took the MSF rider course. After the course I decided that I enjoyed riding enough to want a bike, got this. Then she realized that she's still a few months away on her 400, so we found a '75 CB550F for a few hundred bucks, and she bought it. She has a couple of minor repairs to do on it, so we'll both be riding-ready in about two weeks. I got a great wife, don't I?; Matter of fact, after I get the short trunk in that I bought on Ebay that bike may never have the back seat on it again.Sagebrush wrote:If you're planning on riding two up with the wife she'll appreciate it if you leave the fairing on. Looks nice! I think the CX series is one of Honda's hidden gems. They are excellent around-town bikes while still being pretty darn good on the freeway. I still kick myself for getting rid of my old CX500.
