Oil Leak

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

Oil Leak

#1

Post by KDS111 »

Hello all,
I just got anothe r82 GL500 SilverWing 48,000 miles, MBS you know, its a wonderful thing.
Trying to find a small oil leak. Bike has not been run for a couple of days.
I've let it sit and have a small oil spot around the shifter shaft when on the side stand.
When on the center stand its more towards the middle of the motor.
There is no oil coming down from above.
Is the shifter seal a common problem. Is there something else.
The engine cases are dry.
Thanks, Ken

Clean your engine thoroughly then for go for a short run. When you get back, park it with the kicker down. Watch the area. You'll probably see the oil appear at the seal first. They can be replaced.

Mother Honda does not carry the shifter seal. Anyone have one to sell?

They're around, maybe Bike Barn or one of those guys.

Easy fix, extract the old one with a pick or a drywall screw and press in the new on with an appropriate socket.

+1, it was extremely easy and I didn't even lose any oil.

Bikebandit has em. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorc ... #sch406563

They also list the size, so you can get them from any place that stocks metric oil seals.
