1980 CX500C Master cylinder

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

1980 CX500C Master cylinder

Post by eej1940 »

Trying to rebuild the master brake cylinder. There is an o-ring between the brake fluid reservoir and the body of the master cylinder. I haven't been able to separate the two. Can't see any more bolts to remove so do I just force them apart?

Rebuilding (slowly) my 1980 CX500C which has been sitting since 1991.

Please help, Ed

Yes, carefully. It is a real bugger, but it will come apart.

The current wisdom on the CX forum is to replace it with a specific one available at a reasonable price on eBay.

FWIW, I'm a pretty old school guy when it comes to things like this. When I put my GL500 on the road in '00 I couldn't get its master cylinder's cover screws out (it had the metal reservoir cast integral with the lever perch and a metal lid held on with 2 screws) so I bought a really old master cylinder (round, screw-on cap, no plastic reservoir or even sight glass) from a friend, put a kit into it and have had it on all of my winter machines since.
