CX 500 project bike

for those of you that have M.B.S. (multiple bike syndrome) and have the "silver wing" models.
as our sponsors also have supplies for those bikes and they are popular with the "wing" crowd.

I did the preliminary clean up on the bike this afternoon. No problems noted. I hope tomorrow to be able to run it on the road to just to test it. I've run it some with the seafoam in the tank on the center stand and it seems to be helping. Of course you can't really tell until you get it on the road. I have a friend who has offered to do the carbs so once I get the test ride done I'll strip it down and send the carbs out for some TLC. Might be a keeper.

Looks great.

They are fun nimble little bike. They really compliment the GL1000 as well as an in-town bike :)

Took the carbs off and shipped them to a fellow who will clean them for me. Took the seat to an upholstery shop to have it slightly restyled and covered. Ordered another handlbar. Cleaning and polishing. That's all I think I'll do to it in the short term. I'll have about $1800 in it and will be a real solid 9 bike. I could completely disassemble it and make it a show bike, spend a future on it and then sell it at a loss but I've already done that a time or two and I have the receipts to prove it.

Are these CX 500 bikes refered to as "Silver Wings?"

the arly cx 500's came as a delux and custom (which sort of looked chopped" there may have been another model as well. Then Honda tried to make it a "mini-wing" by adding a fairing and saddlebags. hence the "silverwing". Didn't really catch on too well. Nearly the cost of a goldwing once you added the stuff. And while they are sweet bikes, the two cylinders will beat you to death going across country.... I know, I (and Beth) took our 500c across country more than once

I may have a problem. I sent the carbs to be repaired to a fellow and he's got the carbs and a BUNCH of my money. Isn't returning e-mails and phoned him yesterday to find the phone is no longer in service. Paid thru Paypal and they are "working" on it. Said that I would be covered but we'll see.

Wondering if anyone has had previous contact with or worked with

James Weedmark (Carbmasters)

Find him offering service on motorcycle carbs on eBay. Talked him and seemed experienced and now this.
I haven't given up hope that the fellow is an honest individual and has had trouble of some kind but it's looking suspicious to me at this point.

No dealings with him, but on the news they said that a lot of Oregan is under water from heavy rains. Not saying that is what happened, just the benefit of the doubt. I hope you find him and get your carbs back!

Some good news. Paypal is refunding my money. In addition my post on this forum about this fellow was discovered by another individual who had the exact same "issue".

He has take a different approach. He is local and has the police involved. I spoke yesterday to the police and added my case to the list. They are supposed to be making a visit. Keep ya updated.

It's a small world. I was really surprised that the fellows search engine turned up my post on this forum. Clearly you don't want to post anything on the net that you don't want known. Good and bad. In this case certainly good.

Of course I am still out the carburetors (I got another set from an eBay parts dealer) they will likely need to be cleaned and or rebuilt but at least I am not out the $450.

Anyone know of a REPUTABLE carburetor shop for this project?

Took me a couple hours but I got the new old carbs on the CX500. (I didn't do things in the correct order as far as connecting cables etc so as a result I made it way more work then it needed to be) But that's the price of inexperience. Good news is the bike runs pretty well. It has a bit of a flat spot between the jets opening (I guess that's what is doing it) but better then the carbs I took off and sent out to be stollen. I was actually able to run the bike on the road today for about ten miles and you know I am pretty impressed with the machine. It's going to take just a little more to get it 100% but this is a NICE motorcycle. I think it's way ahead of its time and the engine and transmission drive and over all character of the bike is right up there. For me it being smaller and lighter weight makes it much more comfortable for me to handle as compared to the goldwing. It has some of the same flavor. Being two cylinder as compared to the flat four it's not as smooth and it certainly isn't as powerful. I reminds me of a older BMW r-series which isn't a bad comparison at all. In addition my wheel straightening deal fixed that shimmy so I am proud as punch of myself to this point. Might be a keeper. If you want see something cool go to Joker machine and check out what they are doing to turn a CX500 into a cafe racer.
