It looks like Hwy 36 is one of the premier MC roads in Ca. so I'm certainly going to be coming in to the get-together on it, but don't know from the east or the west yet. The choices are to head east from my house on Hwy 41, and then turn north up in the Sierras, eventually getting to Hwy.36 and heading west, or running up Hwy.1 all the way up the coast to Hwy. 36 and heading east. I have to stop in Ukiah to see my sister, and I may have to stop in Napa to see another sister and her brood, plus friends, but this may take too long with all the friends and family to see...this is fun....

If any of you local N.Cal guys have recommendations on where to ride in the area, I'd like to hear them. I was thinking of a lazy 3 day ride down via this 760 mi route. I hate Interstates. (the road, not the bike) :orange

Image

This route puts me on Highwy 299 from Arcata to Redding, 150 miles of heaven on pavement, or so I've been told. crossy.gif

just be aware the coastal "breeze (aka WIND) blows all summer, and be sure to wipe off the salt air. You will go through Gold Beach OR where Beth and I lived from 77 to 81. Just one block west of the highway on third street is the little church I pastored

Russ - I think it's hwy 99, a twisty road from Klamath, CA, to Weaverville. Follows the Trintiy River. If I remember it brings you right out to Redding, also. Might be an option on the way out. Theres a nice KOA at Klamath.

I have been down the Oregon coast a few times now. Yes the coastal wind blows but it is still a good ride compared to I-5. Want me to stop in and light a candle for you?

I researched Hwy 299 on the web, and it looks and sounds great, I'll check out pashnit.com, thanks for the tip.

Thanks Brant, I'll have to look at Hwy 99 for the way back.

Anybody is welcome to join in.

So, is it too early to estimate what the "buy-in" will be?
