Meandering to Mid-Ohio

#1

Post by Roady »

Hacksaw got my hackles up about another summer adventure. Seems he's hankering for a repeat outing and, by gosh, so am I.

The NGW Mid-Ohio Regional Run coincides with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days and what better vintage bikes are there than our GoldWings?

Image

I feel that Hack said it best in an email to me and I hope he doesn't mind me making it public here.
Hacksaw wrote:Yes I am planning on Mid-Ohio and I'm going to room with KYpondman if all goes well. I hope someone out east plans a ride starting like on Monday or Tuesday before the mid-Ohio weekend and do the back roads to Ohio I would like that, (you know like last year).

I sent Whiskerfish a PM asking if anyone was going to plan a scenic ride to Ohio. His answer was he didn't know what Cyborgs and Old Fogey's plans are and when they could leave. John plans to come over state side again for this one.

But maybe you could plant a seed in Sagebrush's head to plan a ride and start a post like you did for the Run to Randakk's Rally. That might get the ball rolling. You doing what you did for Randakk's Rally really did snowball, and I think we can get something going. Just about everyone in our group may go. Me, you, KY, Bob. Postrucks, if he can get the time off, said something about a trip to Colorado. Don't know about Elvis. But early planning may get John, Cyborg, Whisker, and their group to plan extra time for riding.

I can't wait to see Cyborgs creation, it should be real cool. I bet he'll have it done for this ride. I was thinking a ride going north up to PA, Gettysburg area, some back roads, maybe drop down to WV and wandering up to Ohio. But just anything would be fine, its the riding and having fun like we get did last summer. Just some thoughts.
I plan to go but have not been able to finalize the days off from my job. What the heck?! I'll just have to quit if they say no.

I will be posting some details in another thread very soon about mid-Ohio but just be aware that is is going to be a very minimalistic type of gathering.

The weekend before that I have to be in NY and then back to Norfolk to load up gear and drive the truck and trailer to Ohio etc etc etc. So the NGW part is going to be very informal. We will have a area to gather and will prolly do a restaurant or 2 together and maybe have a couple of local rides but I will not have a schedule or prizes or any of that other kind of stuff. More details will be out as soon as we recover from the site upgrades.

Same here whatever we do, plan some get togethers, eating out, or doing motel parking lot parties, beer and pizza (those are alway fun)
Dose any one have any motels in mind. In 2001 we the (century ride home for indian motorcycle), we stayed at the Airport Holiday Inn, That was like 7 miles away from the AMA grounds and the Heritage Museum. I did see some camping areas for this. Simple is good its all going to fun, and there is a lot packed in just one week-end WOW make your head spin. nothing new for me I am also dizzy :-? Hack

Once you guys decide what direction you will be coming from I would be willing to suggest some routes. Coming from the southeast Ohio area there is a road called the triple nickle RT555 which is a lot of fun to ride if you like hills and curves. I'm located in Columbus and can check out roads just to make sure of their condition. Let me know if you need some help. I would like to meet up with the group at some point and ride along. anim-cheers1

Thanks for the offer there Bill. Oldewing (Greg Jones) is the lead for this one and is also pretty close in Gahanna I think. Might be the two of you should talk a bit.

OH BOY, this is starting to sound real good, AGAIN!

Sounds like most of the same crowd from last year will get there somehow. Cyborg and I will definitely be there but no definite plans yet, Pete (gr8wheels) Clark can't make it this year.

It would be real good to meet you all again, so get your calendars out guys and get planning!

I got the final okay on my vacation days. So, I'll be leaving out of St. Louis on the 5th or 6th. I do intend to meander my way over to VMD's. My plan is to weave around and pickup as many of the gang as I can.

What say you, KyPondMan, Robert Russell, POStrucks, Elvis, Deek .... "is there anybody out there?" *

I will probably leave Buffalo on the Monday 5th and head back to Norfolk. Then be ready to depart Norfolk Thursday the 8th early AM with Truck, Trailer, parts, and bike. Looks to be about a 10 hour run to Mid Ohio for me.

I would love to go but would have to leave early to return home. I have meetings that can't be moved or missed for Monday the 12th. I would really enjoy getting together with everyone again.

Bob, there's nothing formal going on so your flexible schedule works out okay. Will you be able to wander around with us for a few days before the meet? I plan to get started on the 7th and do some aimless travel and meet ups.
