Re: Building long fendered bike
I'm using a two part epoxy liner from Caswell. Tank is done, and painted. And installed, but I still need a fuel valve that is separate from the tank with main, reserve function. I mounted it on my 76 with the mono rear shock and the 1200 engine. Looks good...but as most know, I don;t do pictures. There are some pictures with the original custom tank somewhere on the site. Looks about the same, with the exception of a different tail lite. And instead of two separate tanks, its all in one. Still a tail section tank

I'm making a flat track tailpiece for a 73 cb750. I hate to waste space, the spare fuel is a great idea.

Shell finished. It needs a bottom so it has storage capacity.

WOW !! That looks fantastic!
So you lay your glass over the buck right ? which means the inside of the fibreglass tail piece is nice and smooth - what do you do to get the outside looking nice, do you sand and use body filler ?

Re: Building long fendered bike
Right. This is a one-off piece,so a permanent 'female ' mold was unnecessary. I haven't found a foam yet that doesn't dissolve from resin,so it gets bondo coated ,shaped very carefully, then wrapped in aluminum tape. Turtle wax over the tape, let dry, then lay up glass over it. A helper makes it easier, mixing up the next small(about 6 oz.)batch of resin.3 plastic quart cups on your bench; one has acetone for cleaning brushes, the other two for resin.as you run out in one cup, your buddy should have the second ready. DO NOT STOP till you have four layers thick of mat layed up. If you stop, let it set up,start again,it's not as strong. Other than being a mess,it's rather fun.

Re: Building long fendered bike
Almost forgot the outside. Let it set up 24 hrs, even though it feels dry. Sand it halfway decent, see if you are sanding into the fibers. If so,stop sanding and mix up some resin. Coat it well, let it kick off several hours and resand.it should be petty straight by now,so remaining flaws can be filled with bondo filler,or better yet, bondoglass fiber reinforced filler. Sand, wipe with alcohol. You can use any primer, but I like catalyzed urethane.wetsand with 400 grit and paint.

The opening on the front of the 'bump' is going to have a door, but the padding and vinyl will hide it. Storage compartment.

Thanks for the explanation. Looking forward to seeing it painted.
That storage compartment is actually quite generously sized, should prove quite usefull.

Re: Building long fendered bike
I'm hoping so! I cut three inches out,as it was silly long, and made a new end cap, bonding it in and blending it as one. This is my 73 cb750k that's becoming a tracker/scrambler.

Yep. I'm from new Hampshire, way up north,I listed my location back then as " goatscrotum,nh". I love that Latin phrase,BTW. Googled it,and I think this cb750 ' dirtbike' would wear it proudly on the tailpiece, lol.

Cow Hampshire
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
