"There is also a small oil leak from the head on the RHS that I am studiously ignoring for now..."

Look it over carefully. Could be the tach seal. They sometimes leak, dripping down around the head, making it look like it is from the head. But, it could be the valve cover gasket. Maybe time for valve cover gaskets and new bolt seals.

Oops, edited my post to say LHS!!!

I'll clean up the area of oil and then trace the origin when I have the the bike rideable again. I was a bit hasty to ride her, and I still need to finish off some odds and ends before I can ride her again safely.

All new valve cover gaskets and bolt seals were fitted so I am a little bummed out by the little oil puddle on the floor. Therein lies my reason for ignoring it for now....

Well on the 1100 on the LHS there is a rubber seal under the little cover on the rear of the head. Its known to fail due to age. You'll know if its the culprit as soon as you remove the cover. I've fixed a couple of them by really cleaning and degreasing the rubber and applying a bead of silicone sealer around the edge (that rubber seal is no longer available). Once fixed it stays that way.

Also on the LH side is the shift lever seal. Those can leak and seem somewhat like it's coming from the head area too.

Although I was doing my best to ignore the leak and rather keep the joy of my first ride alive, I could not ignore posts from two of the best Goldwing experts on my thread. When I got home last night I went down on my knees in thanks for guys like them on the forum and their consistent willingness to help. anim-cheers1

Whilst I was on my knees anyway, I shuffled closer to the bike and studied the origin of the leak. The odds are 95% in favour of it coming from the rubber seal behind the little cover on the rear of the head. I find this a bit odd too because I did clean that rubber plug meticulously, and applied a gasket sealer on installation.

It's just going to have to wait in line for attention though, I have enough loose ends to knit a blanket, they need tying up first...

I know from experience that silicone sealer like you would use to caulk your bathtub, clear waterproof, works. Don't be bashful either, use a liberal amount. I don't know about gasket sealer as its meant for a very different job.

And this morning I saw a drop of oil on the floor from the RHS too, she is way too possessive of her territory!

RHS leak is from the valve cover gasket, even though its new OEM from Honda, together with the new bolt seals. Huh?!!!

LHS I will redo the plug with silicone sealer, as recommended by Sagebrush.

Absolutely positive? The tach seal can leak and look very much like it is coming from the valve cover. Cam seal too.

If it is the valve cover do you have OEM or maybe some chrome covers? The chrome covers seem to cause issues sometimes.

Well? Momentum needs impetus in perpetuity, yes? No?

Quite right Patriccio.

At this time the impetus has been reduced to a perpetuity of moments, none of them long enough to get much done. We have been been away on a family holiday, the kids have had a slew of weekend activities, it's been my wife's birthday for which I arranged a surprise party, etc, etc.

Imvubu is sulking impatiently, still dripping her angry oily tears on the floor.

I am doing the rear fender in the hope that a new shapely rear end will improve her mood.

That's a good idea. I hope her wound will heal faster and not drip any more.
Sometimes it is better to deal with other things. And then focus on the problem again.

This is roughly how the tail end is shaping up. Imvubu's rear is going to look like a girl in a bikini, just enough covered up to be allowed out in public ;)
