After looking at some cb750's, xs650's and other 'small engine' bikes i stumbled upon a picture of a GL1000 and was sold. The boxer engine and the 1000cc made the bike look much 'fatter' than those 750's and 650's. and being 1.95cm and 105kg a gl seemed to fit much better
i looked around alot, read alot, and finally bought one for not to much euro's. i got it home on a trailer, it rode, but i didn't feel like riding 150km in the rain. some hours later, the fairing was gone, other bars and mufflers were mounted and she lookup much more appealing (to me at least
)
after riding it for some days, all of a sudden the engine locked up and wouldn't run one single meter anymore (at least not without pushingit. 5km pushing a 260kg bike home in 30 deg. celcius was NO fun at all).I asked around on this forum, and after trying all good suggestions nothing worked so i finally had to buy another engine.
It took me some time to swap the engines, but a could of weeks ago i finally had the time, and switched engines.
Wow, she rode again, and also much better than with the previous engine! (the new engine is the one in the back) got around 140psi on all four cylinders
at this time, i need to change one gasket, it is leaking a little bit of oil on the fuel pump side. It should be in the air right now from the US to the Netherlands.
meanwhile i'm changing the rear fender: shopped the old one up, i'm making a custom seat and added some other mufflers.
here's how she is looking at the moment. so what still needs to be done?
- align the front wheel, it has some vertical travel
- finish the seat
- mount another front fender
- put other bars on
- i ordered a pair of beston grips
- mount steel brake lines
so in the weeks to come i will be asking alot more questions
