OK....the seat should not go up to a pointy thing but, should square off and get a little thicker at the rear. I don't know what to think about the fender. It seems too wide but, with the right paint scheme, it would work. A bit too low, right?

Re: let me hear your opinion
yes the seat is kinda pointy and the fender is oversized.
like i said just looking at some ideas.
might work if the seat was reworked at the front, the frame and tank was reworked to allow the seat to sit more upright, and if considerable work was done to the fender.
might happen might not.
thanks for the input.

Sorry, but I'm with Fish on this one. It may me that, like with jazz music, that I just don't 'get it', but I still don't wonder, 'How will he do it?', but, 'Why?'
Normally, I wouldn't have posted in with what some would think is a negative opinion, but you DID ask for them. I admit that the limitation might be on my end.

Re: let me hear your opinion
Wait a minute.
You have to stare at it for a while and decide.
The rear wheel will travel with the suspension but the fender is usually attached to the rear frame rails. Sometimes, you have to take the wheel off and put a new tire on. Clearance for that should be considered.
The radius of the fender (and it's valence) should match the wheel/tire combo.
It's got that street-sweeper look, but what do YOU want? If that's the look you're going for, then look at Whiskerfish's bike. Nicely done there.
Consider a bit of welding to mount the fender to the swingarm, then it would travel with the wheel/tire/suspension but you may need to incorporate some quick-disconnect sort of mounting. That would eliminate the gap between the tire and fender (so apparent when viewing the bike from the side).
King/Queen seats aren't very popular lately. A sissy bar may straighten out the look of the seat.

greg
i think for it to work several modifications to the fender would need to be made.
-narrowed
-radius reworked to match the tire
-rotated forward slightly
-bottom radiused
-sides extended to cover tire.
i think that would give it a proper street sweeper look.
then mounting the seat would have to be addressed. and i think you are correct that a sissy bar of some type would be necessary to to tie the seat in.
as far as the popularity of king and queen seats goes, i respect the views of the members here. i often take those views into consideration. what i will not do is make a design choice based on popularity or current fads. if i did that i might as well just buy a bike and try to convince folks that i built it. thats just not my style.

Re: let me hear your opinion
I think the back of a bike is the hardest part to work out.
The look of the exhaust from the rear, the seat, the fender, and even the tire come into play. Then there's the mandatory lighting and the registration plate mount and it's light. It's like a puzzle. All the pieces need to fit into the "look" you have in your head. There are necessary compromises that come up. Keeping them to a minimum allows the builder to stay close to his/her "vision". "Everything affects Everything" will raise it's ugly head and has to be dealt with.
Most trailer-style fenders are made for wide wheel Harley type customs so I would expect some mods to be necessary to fit it into the 1200. I usually mock-up complicated pieces out of cardboard and duct tape so I can better visualize what I'm doing.
In the end, I guess it just boils down to problem solving. The only person you need to please is yourself. That part is real important.
