KRBobber Project.

I found one!
It's a bit newer than I wanted.
And it doesn't run.
Actually it's quite a basket case, but hell, the price was right and it's mine now.
I'm really starting to like it. 8)

The "plan" is to go total bobber on this thing, if it doesn't make the bike go I don't plan to have it on there.
I'm already having a blast!

Anyway here is the grand entrance to the garage.

(testing the image thing, might not have it worked out just yet.....)

Oh, it says I have to have 5 posts? I thought I had 5 posts....

Thanks for all the help you guys have already been, been able to find tons of great info here.
Off to search for where to get the best service manual.

You saved a lot of time in the strip down phase! 8)

I'm interested in that seat.

What year is the bike?

When you get 10 post, send a PM to RAT and he'll set you up with an album. Then you'll be good to login.

I would like the case guards.
I prefer that style of wraparound to the ones that just cover the front at the timing belt covers.
Plus they clear all the vacuum connections for syncing.

Looks like an 83 with those front forks ... tearing them down is fun ... putting them back together is the adventure 8)

When you get a chance, maybe under a different thread,
how about some pictures of your work table there.
How is it balanced, is it a turntable arrangement, that kinda thing.

"Naked bike in a Kit" :P
Thanks for the album tip, I'll be at 10 in no time with all the questions I'm gona have.
And I'd ask what you wanted to trade for the seat, but that carb write up is plenty for me! Doubt I'll be using the seat and it seems in great shape, yours if you want it.

And yup. it's an 83.

Pretty sure those are the bars for around the side bags? They have passenger pegs on them and seem to fit back there?
Don't think it had any crash bars, the PO put those few miles on it and then dropped it on the left side and parked it in what looks like 1985.
The left timing cover is busted up, hoping the timing was not screwed up, pulling the head soon to check.
I like the "600 mile oil change" sticker on the speedo, I'll bet it was never changed. :-?

Everything is shot up front from sitting, all the brakes are fully seized, calipers and mc, forks seem to have water in them.
I'm thinking I will graft some inverted shocks from a sport bike on the front for fun. 8)

I'll get some more pics if you like, might have to wait for this hunk of lead to get off it though. :-)
It is an old dentist chair base, barbers chairs are similar but not as heavy. They make great little work tables since they are crazy stable (ie, weigh a ton) and they go up and down on a big hydro cylinder.
I use this for much lighter bikes and the whole thing tips down to meet the ground like a ramp, roll a (lighter than a wing) bike up on it and the thing tips back down like a see-saw (there is a gas shock on the one side to make this a smooth motion) and the bike sits up there in the wheel chock. Having the work at sitting height (or standing height with the stand jacked up) is the only way to go. the table is pretty rough around the edges, but it sure beats working on the ground.
I'll get more pics when the current load is lightened a bit. :o

Now that is pretty cool. :anim-cheers1: :respekt2:

How do you plan to get 600 or so pounds of motorcycle back down to the ground without it running away from you? You loaded that bike from the back of your trailer, right?

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I guess.
Just push it back and roll with it I guess! (I'll make sure someone captures that scene in pixles for you)

Got a bit more nekid last night.
And the light from my enduro on for fun, think I'll keep it that way.

On a more serious note, I'm not looking to sell off parts (or turn this into a parting out thread) but I'm not one to throw out stuff that someone else might be in need of.

So if there is something you want to trade for, send me a PM.
(seat is already spoken for as thanks for the great carb write-up!)

So far I know I will be needing:
Water pump housing.
Rear brake master.
Will early valve covers fit? If so, I want some of the horizontal style GL1000 covers.
And I though this one would be a hydro clutch? Looks like I'll be needing parts to turn it into one.

I'll update this post as new things pop up.

Now to fix those annoyingly large photos in the top of this thread.

The huge headlight bucket looks kinda cool. Seems to help with the scale of the bike.

Thanks for the seat, I'll put it to good use. I cut my original down and it's just a little too small for my wide a!$ now.

I have an old rear MC from an '80 (I think) and will send it if you think you could use it. Needs rebuild but it might help you out.

Ah, photos fixed, that is much nicer.

The seat's actually pretty cool, would be neat to figure out how to use the back end, nice shape.

Image

I was just thinking with the enduro light, but I actually really like it, the tube frame continues the top frame tubes very nicely.
My plan is to actually leave all the frame tubes exposed, I think I will skin the inside of that top part with panels, clean the tabs off the frame and leave it exposed.

I'm not kidding when I say it is starting to look how I want, I'm going REALLY naked. ;)

The tank was about as rusty as I have ever seen, no salvaging that without cutting it open, that is ok though, I will keep the tank location the same but find/make (or some combination) a moon style tank and mount it transversely under the seat, move the battery up above the transmission (not really move I guess, but replace with a cube gel style one) and run without the side covers.

And if the one you've got looks better than this then I might have to take you up on it!

Mine's better than that but will need a rebuilt kit anyway.

So you're not really going naked ... more like bare bones.

If you decide to go stock tank CyclePsycho rehabs 'em for a good price.
