Re: '80 1100 Imvubu Build
Once I got home I couldn't help myself and spent some time trimming the edges back with a baby grinder. I marked the edge lines with blue painters tape and carefully cut back a bit at a time until I was happy. The pan now follows the lines of the frame and should 'float' just above it once I have it finally attached.

Re: '80 1100 Imvubu Build
Hah Hah! The size of the seat is in fact only fractionally narrower than the original. then there's still plenty of foam that needs to go on top for comfort. By doing away with the couch backrest bits that the original seat had the new seating area is longer than the original and should allow for a more varied seating position on a long ride.

Looking good buddy
Personaly I really think exposing the rear part of the frame is great.
What are your plans for the rear mudguard ?

Thanks Norbert, I'ts almost a pity that I have to add foam, I quite like the shape as it looks now but it is way too low for comfort!
Rear mudguard will be a shortened section, very similar to your's I think. I've always fancied your rear end
I still want to hang my number plate off the back though, just for added spray protection if I get caught riding in the rain.

+1 on the plate off the back - I'm going to relocate mine because I get a rooster tail up my back and helmet whenever I go through water....
Re seat foam, I only have 50mm of high density foam, and it's comfy for many hours in the saddle. The trick IMO is to contour the sides so that they dont dig into your thigh, and also make sure your legs dont make contact with the sharp edge of the base.

Re: '80 1100 Imvubu Build
I ordered these on Thursday afternoon from Hagon in the UK. Delivered to my door on Tuesday (yesterday) morning!
I have set a world record for parts to South Africa, I will be listed on page 317 in the latest edition of Guinness World Records. Quentin Tarentino wants to buy the rights for his new movie called 'Killer Shocks on Speed'. Brad Pitt will be playing me. Closest to me in the looks department my buddy Quentin says.
In the meantime I will carry on with my build. With my new shocks fitted I"ll have a roller.

Re: '80 1100 Imvubu Build
Shocks are semi fitted and I can sit on the bike again, off the centre stand, for the first time in 18 months
Seat pan mounts are done and I am playing with different foam layers. Everything in the garage is covered in a layer of foam dust from the cutting and shaping. I think I've cut up a queen size mattress worth of foam already
I am building a rider bike so I need a comfortable seat at the right height, but from an aesthetics perspective the seat needs to be as thin as possible. I am having a hard time getting the balance right. When it looks good it feels terrible and when it's comfortable it looks terrible.
I think I am happy with the rear at last. It's about as thin and comfortable as I can make it.
Makes me think of Liquorice Allsorts...

Re: '80 1100 Imvubu Build
I know exactly what you mean. I had an idea in my head as exactly how I wanted my seat to look. I built it from scratch and it came out just like I had imagined. BUT, about 2 hours on it and I'm done, I need a break.

Layers. Parfait, yep, I'm thinking parfait. Too much parfait, & you too will resort to the King 'n Queen Mother Honda Barcolounger Magnificent Cushion for the Comfort Challenged Buttocks.
Keep at it! Except for those of us who are not in it together, we are all in this together.
