Hello There!!

#1

Post by Jrod »

Hi NGW peeps!
I meant to say hello back in March when I picked up my Wing, but got a bit sidetracked.
This is my first so far... A 1978 GL1000. I picked it up with a leaking weep hole at the water pump and thanks to these forums, was able to fix it nicely. THANK YOU GUYS!

...I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do to it when I bought it, so over the summer I've done a few mods.
Not neccessarily turn it into a cafe, but sport it out a bit. Pretty happy with it so far... still a bit of seat sculpting to do on it over the winter.

Some of the changes included dropping the headlight and gauge cluster down as well as swapping out the seat from a Triumph Sprint.

Welcome to the site. You are following a very similar path to my own, looks good. I've lowered my headlight as well, but I'm curious as to what you did to lower your guage cluster.

Thanks much!
The gauge cluster has bolts that are either pressed or welded in (I couldn't quite tell - they were in there good, though), but I drilled them out. I then bought longer bolts and spacers for both the cluster and the ignition and mounted them to the underside of the top triple tree. I tried to keep the bike "modern classic" looking and make it so that it could be reversed back to stock in the future if desired. However, the two permanent changes that I did make were cutting the rear helmet holder plates of the frame, and cutting the lower half of the bezel that surrounds the ignition tumbler. I'll try and get a picture soon.

Thanks for the pictures. I figured the only way to do it was to remove the bolts, but I wasn't too sure I wanted to.

I'm liking the bike.

Any idea on what brand/model that windshield is from your before pictures? I want to pick one up just like that for mine.

Thank you. How is/was it on your GL? I'm a taller guy, but I am just looking for something to take the load off of my chest for higher speed highway trips.

It seemed to work decently. To be honest, I only had it on the first week after I bought the bike, so I really didn't get to try it out much.
