shadow side panel repair...

#1

Post by 5speed »

Thought I would post this in case anyone could use these in a repair job.

The previous owner had snapped one of the plastic studs off that holds the left side panel on.
The first pic shows his repair solution...

The subsequent pics show how I fixed it.

I need to get or make a washer to go behind the latch. My hole saw was a bit bigger then the threaded part.

As well I need bigger washers for the stud. I left the rubber grommet in to act as an isolator to take the vibration out of the stud and latch and the supplied washers are a bit to small.

Other than that..it works great and was very easy to install.

I'm going to put one on the other side panel to balance out the "look" and because they are a much more secure way to hold the panel on.

What's the diameter of the "button"? That looks like a good solution for the GL1000 side panels too.

The one I used is an inch. They make a smaller one and bigger ones. Also in different colours..
