cm400 bobber builds

#1

Post by J Wright »

per request I will be posting some pics up of 2 cm400 builds that me and a buddy are doing. His is a 1980 cm400t, mine is an 81 cm400a (hondamatic). We picked up both in non running condition with titles for $250. The sole purpose was to build these bikes. I will not be doing a complete build thread but will add pics from time to time. My goal is to have the build completely finished for under $1k.

First Ill show you the last bike that we built together. It started its life as a buell xb12. This was before paint and powder coat....

So now the cm400s. The automatic one is mine (with the kick start)
This one is my buddies. I didnt take a before pic of mine
Image

1 1/2 hours later... all the electronics pulled, excess parts pulled, rear of frames cut off. Mine is on the left. It actually sits 1" higher because of the height of the motor. Ground clearances will be the same (about 3").
Image

Just trying to get a feel for how we want these to sit. This is with my buddy on it, he is 6'2", and I am 5'8" so my seating will be a little farther forward. Seat height may drop another 1-2".

We only have the weekends to work on these as we have completely opposite schedules but hoping to be complete in a few months.

Thoughts on mine are yamaha xj front wheels (19" mags) for the front and rear on mine. Will convert the disk brake mount to run a sprocket. so tall skinny tires front and rear

rear drop outs made (1/4 flatbar)
tubing (1.25x.120 dom) rolled, notched
rear frame put together and tacked waiting for final welds
