Frame is now painted "Metallic Charcoal Gray" shot the 4 coats afterwork yesterday on the first warm dry day we have had in what seems like forever... The cell phone pics brightened it up a lot to overcome the low light conditions in the shop. Sure looks darker and a mile deep in person. I laid the last coat on pretty heavy to keep the dry-spray to a minimum and give it a "wet" gloss look. Really happy today afterwork when I inspected it close and found no sags!! :)

Quick update, been spending my nights getting the engine clean to paint. Best method so far to get into the raw aluminum fins is scotchbright doubled over long and slow process but the white chalky corrosion is gone.
To break the monotony I got the fork lowers sanded clean and painted black

Image

I've painted the swingarm and misc small parts the gray to match the frame. Took the frame out in the sun for some true color pics...

Image

... and found a seat style I like. Lets see how close I can get with the same method I used on the Bombers seat.

Two small hints. You'll wish you would have powder coated the lowers, believe me. And the seat needs to have at least a small hump right where your butt will be. Doesn't need to be a lot but enough to hold you in place while accelerating hard. We've talked about what you want to do with this and you'll be doing that some. Get the pan done and then set on he bike and get comfortable. Then you can see where the hump will need to be. Really trust me on this one. ;)

Got it...
I anticipated raising the rear hump a little but may make it more pronounced since you recomended it... and your right to get the pan made and then with me seated on the bike to determine the location... THANKS!
I did use VHT's epoxy paint as an extra measure LINKY . not as good as PC I am sure but the best stuff my meager budget could afford.

Quote:
VHT Epoxy Paint is a one-step epoxy coating, which does not require the use of a primer. It has been formulated to give the appearance and durability of a baked-on finish. It provides a porcelain-like finish that is chemical, corrosion, rust and salt resistant.

I've already started looking for a second frame to try my hand at raking the neck. I did cut a lot of unnessecary tabs and tubes off this one to clean it up and trim some weight, but figure a no title frame dirt cheap should surface eventually to kick it out some.

When you want to start cutting the frame please get with me first. Hopefully you can get down here and I'll show how mine are done and how the one on the customer bike was done that I still have here for now. It is pretty hard to really see in pictures.

I think I may have been a bad influence on him.

Is that a Tracy body? I've seen lots of them for the KZ and it looks similar. Never seen one for the GS.

Yea Nate, I got another build going on. I just can't seem to turn down a challenge of saving a bike from rusting into one solid piece... and Robin DID wet my whistle on this one :)

And yep Robin, it is listed as a Tracy now . I'm still trying to find info on them myself, and the guy that owns it doesn't know either, he originally listed it as a "Troy" until someone corrected him. I doubt if it will fit my 750 frame and the guy is taking offers so my chances are pretty slim, but it is dripping "COOL" to me.

Those are kind of neat. The gas tank is built in and the whole thing is one piece. I don't know how heavy they are. Is he close enough to drag your frame over and test fit it? You may be able to make it work with minor mods.

No it's in Texas... and I think shipping is going to be the show stopper. He hasn't provided dimensions or weight that I asked for to try and check fitment and estimate shipping before I make an offer.. and say's it is going on e-bay tomorrow.

Yeah, thats like selling a Vetter fairing. The shipping is what kills you. I don't think the weight would be all that bed but the size is what will kick it up. And it would have to packed pretty well to prevent damage.

Headers have been painted with some high temp paint after sandblasting all the rusty chrome. It's hanging in the rafters awaiting installation. Muffler cleaned up well enough to keep chrome ;)

Misc fasteners and small parts have their epoxy black.

After what seems like forever (weeks) it finally quite raining here yesterday so now the Engine's done. I just need to pull the covers, remove the tape, then re-install with the new gaskets. So, soon I can get it back in the frame and start making some real progress.
