A guy that works for me has been watching the Bomber build on my work computers wall-paper and mentioned he had a '80 Suzuki 750 that was a shed find. I coaxed him trying to get him motivated on building it but he showed little interest. He had picked up a spare tank and carb rack off an 850 just for spares, a new battery, and a factory service manual. Verified the engine fired on either but never did much else. I told him if he ever wanted to part with it to let me know.
Then Friday he told me if I wanted it to come get it, he needed the room in his garage. I asked him how much for the whole shebang and his reply was "Nothing, I just want it gone."
I am off work for my "Use it or Loose it" vacation before the end of the year and he works 2nd shift so I called him today and got me a trailer load of project!! In order to keep the morals healthy, and I didn't want any hassles for accepting "gifts" from an employee, I gave him $50... he was thrilled ;)

The box not only has a carb set but an extra set of 4 rubbers and a spare fuse harness and an 2nd air box!

that could be interesting, Suzuki was said to be the first Japanese brand that learned how to make a bigger bike handle.

Scott, you can now ignore my post on the other thread with the pic of the jeep and trailer w/bike. This explains it. Let's wee now. That make's number three. The little 350/4 still needs to get done. Now another. You got it bad dude. ;) lolol
I sold my little CL175. Wanted the room. I never seem to be in the right place though for bikes at that price.

I worked on a 2 valve 1100 this summer. Have a GS425 on the lift right now. Had the top end off. Just got the battery and tach seal late today. Should have it going tomorrow. Hopefully the guy can pick it up then before Christmas. One of my wifes friends wants her riding lawn mower worked on.
Oh well, it pays the bills.

Cookie, wouldn't you agree BMW might have pegged that a while before?

If you mean handling yes and no. They were still running the Earls fork and plunger rear suspension up until the late 60s, although I drove an R60 and currently have R71 derivatives the handling is best called adequate. They made quite a number of bikes later that had weaving problems, I'm not going to bother looking it up but I think the first /5s were a disaster until they extended the wheelbase, but only if ridden hard. Then there were those BMW cop bikes in the 80s the cops were afraid to ride. That said they have made a number of steady platforms and a few really good handlers. That new 1000 is the bomb from what I've read.
If you get on that little Triumph I bet you will feel the difference. My Norton makes my wings feel like trucks, it seems so tiny and flickable after riding a wing.
I had a friend who collected Suzuki GSXRs and he is also an old pommy bike rider. He is pretty convinced Suzuki has the handling right and he sure keeps up with my Norton, of course I have maybe 60 hp and I think he has 120 and real brakes.

We got to spend some alone time with these last two afternoons and I had my way with her!

Image

Shifter lever shaft was seized in the side cover, but PB Blaster and a little heat and we are all good.
3 boxes of parts "Bagged-n-Tagged" as well as every connector on the harness's are labeled.
When I goth the Exhaust off I peeked in the ports and found... SHE'S A 16 VALVE!! action1

Sorry, I could have told you that by looking at the valve cover. Nice thing about that is it has rocker arms instead of shims. A lot easier to set the valve clearence.
Looking good so far. Having all that room and heat is nice huh??!! :orange

That is good news!!! I was dreading the shims after reading up on setting the valve lash. I need a different manual, even though mine says from 76-80 it isn't correct in many ways for this '80 that was built 12/79. carbs are CV,s and the cover for the drive sprocket was different than shown, as well as this head.
And yes, it sure is nicer than that cramped garage.. but it's not so cramped anymore. With todays warmer temps and rain it sure did make the floor sweat in the shop though.

Did they insulate under the concrete before they poured it? If I ever get a newer/bigger shop up it will have insulation underneath. I would love in floor radiant heat.
Yeah, the new concrete along with the cold temps then warming up will make it sweat pretty good. Since you don't keep it heated all the time it is even worse. Get a nice big fan, maybe one of those barn fans. Turn it on for awhile before you go out there. That will help dry it and keep it dry while running at least.

I took some of the VERY rusted pieces to work and put them in the blasting cabinet.

Image

Also trimmed some weight. No two-up on this one!

Image

But I learned as far as frames go, paint stripper is a heck of a lot easier than sandblasting!!!!
