Taking off the trunk

#1

Post by salukispeed »

My Wife has decided she does not want to ride any more and now my 84 interstate looks like it could use a pretend mass reduction. I am considering removing the trunk, and to keep the extra lighting for safety I am hoping someone knows of a plug and play tail lamp that would replace the licence plate light and fit under the trunk rack. I was thinking something like a 84 standard light . There are many lighting possibilities and I am wimping out and looking for the clean, fast easy route. I will keep the rear fender and bags
Thanks

Someone more knowledgeable will chime in, but my thought is the tail light from a Standard will not work. I just went the other direction with my 81, adding Interstate bags to a Standard. The turn signals on the Standard assembly interfere with the bags. I went with an Interstate tail light bracket, which has no provision for the stalks since the indicators are in the bags.
I also looked into the possibility of using a new CB1100 tail light assembly, but at nearly $100 it was more than I wanted to spend. Got the Interstate bracket off ebay for less than 10, in excellent condition.

Go with a '78 tail light route... Mounts on fender with turn signals mounted to it.
