Humor me
If both cams were installed 180 out, up facing down. Would that change the firing order to 3-1-4-2???
It means nothing to stock setup but am thinking about 4 into 1 setups.

Re: Humor me
If both cams were upside down or 180 out, wouldn't they be in time on the next revolution of the crank?

Re: Humor me
Zero effect is correct, as the cams actually define which TDC is compression. Two revolutions of the crank for every one revolution of the cams.

Re: Humor me
I've been traveling all day, thanks for the replies. I had to draw out a picture-- several! I was thinking half turns of the crank as well as the cam.
So setting the cams with the "up" down would allow the firing to go 2-4-1-3 which is the same as with pulleys up but 1-3-2-4, and would not help for making equal length runners for 4 into 1.
Using the stock headers with their dividers in place and a central collector box would give equal lengths and pretty good pulses.
Before my next question I'll draw pictures.

Re: Humor me
Had to share this shot from my ride today. Guy is sitting on two sheets of plywood and carrying it up a mountain road. Picture a sudden gust of wind. First is a pic of the mountains but the steepness of the roads has to be seen in person.
I watched a truck stop in the oncoming lane the other day and all of a sudden a body with a helmet (thankfully) comes crashing into the pavement in front of me. I stop as fortunately I had time. Then I realise why I saw only his helmet come crashing to the ground, no arms coming out. He was holding his 2-5 year old daughter-- who seemed to be unhurt as did he. I think three bikes crashed into the pickup. That's the third one I've watched happen since here.Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: Humor me
also firing order of 2-4-1-3 would also be considered 1-3-2-4 with a 2 point system and wasted spark.Just depends on where you start counting.
