How to Disconnect the annoying Turn Signal Beeper

#1

Post by WingMan71 »

So, that's the question: Just exactly where is the best place to disconnect the turn signal beeper on a GL1000?

I looked at the small horn itself wedged in just to the left of the headlight bucket. It seems completely enclosed in a hard rubber case. Kind of indicates that perhaps it is hardwired inside, i.e. no quick connect to just disconnect at the horn.

Sure would like to disconnect it without destroying the little beeper, for originality's sake.

Appreciate any advice.

Now, it does have a short pigtail on it. The plug in is not right at/on the unit

OK, I'll try to follow the pigtail tomorrow and see where it goes. It seems to disappear somewhere under the left side cover on the gas tank. Hopefully, I can get to where it connects.

Should just be about a foot long or less, and disconnect bullet connectors. (some years were a bit longer I think)

It sits in a large rubber O ring on the left side.

Just unplug it.

I'm opposite from you, wish mine worked but when the faring was removed all those years ago, somehow something got unplugged and can't figure out what goes where for that item.

Tried following the schematic but the wire colors don't match up.

Really have to look at it again after it warms up a bit.

Well... I found it and disconnected it.

Here's a picture of where it connects on my '76 LTD. It's in a large rubber connector boot next to the steering head under the left tank side cover. Pretty easy to get at.

Image

One white wire in a double connector and one red-green wire in a single bullet connector.

Thanks for the help tracking it down.

Now people won't think I'm sitting at a stop light beeping my horn at the guy in front of me, and calling me names! :IDTS:
