I think the original designers of the wing wanted a machine that was stable at the speeds it was capable of. It was designed for the long haul, and at speed. scooting around town, from light to light, was the job of the "light weights". But the designers thought of that as well, and designed it with an extreme low center of gravity to off set the weight. Designers who were ahead of their time,.....and thought outside of the box. They thought, as do I, that a Goldwing is the exact right weight

At 6'4 and 260lbs, I can verify this. Although my buddies have said that, unlike some other bikes I have been on, I don't look ridiculously out of place on my Gl1000. It's just about the right size for me. My knee's don't come above the tank would be one example lol.
1975 GL1000 - Delkevic exhaust with stainless studs, Corbin Touring seat, Race Tech Gold Valve cartridge emulators, Progressive 11-1100 springs, Progressive 412HD rear shocks, Shinko 230 tires, Fork Brace, Trucklite 27270c headlight, X-Arc Signals (run, brake, turn), Hydraulic Clutch conversion, EBC Clutch discs, HD springs, and Barnett Steels + Plate B eliminated.
