voltage rectifier replacement to a more modern one
Just bought a new voltage/ regulator off the net. not orig. to the 79 wing, but I'm trying to keep up with something more reliable than 30 year old electrics. As in my last post with the main fuse melting. they say plug and play , [connector and wire colors seem to be the same , cbr600-1000 part.] what should I be worried about? You know there's Always something. Mr murphy always shows up. Plus the wife always says what did u do know! Any special things I should know about. I hate to see smoke. [sometimes]

Many (including myself) have done that conversion. Wire colors match up (IIRC). It doesn't matter which order you connect the 3 yellow wires. Just make sure all you connections are clean, etc and remove the stock regulator from under the false tank. Now's a very good time to check the condition of your stator plug. They have a habit of melting.

With this new rectifier, you'll get the benefit of some additional charging system capacity and an internal voltage reference. It's a nice upgrade.

had to change the plug, but thats no biggie. got them on three bikes. all work very very well.
there is no need to add any sense wire, not needed. they are regulated internally. here is some info.

which explains quite clearly how a Mosfet r/r works. doing away with the sense wire, prevents a lot of hassle.
the thing to look for when buying one is the " FH " on the casing, meaning mosfet type and not " SH " which signifies a shunt type.
in my opinion this is a must do upgrade for any older bike.
