Been looking at my engine up on the stand, and have been installing the new C5, and thought about getting rid of the stub on the right cam that ran the fuel pump. I won't be using it, as I have an electric pump, and an electric tach. If I take the tip off, am I correct in thinking that I could put a seal on that cam, and put a cover over it?
I have never examined it but there is an oil supply for those gears back there so yes it would need to be sealed off. Many have done it. Just use the existing holes for the tach drive mount to build your cover from.

That's what I was hoping to do...tried a search, and ericheath was the only one that came up...knew others had done it, but didn't exactly know how. Seems a hammer with a good tap takes care of it.
Sunnbobb and other's take a hammer to it for 1100's. Then use a right side cover for it. If the hammer scares you, a saw or cutoff wheel should work.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks Eric! Knew I had seen it, but couldn't remember where, and the search was being smarter than me! After digging through parts yesterday, I might keep it on, and put the NOS fuel pump plate on the tach drive. It isn't like I don't have a large lump hanging off the left head, why should I make the right one nice and svelt? Time will tell what I decide...not afraid of a hammer, but have saws that work as well.

And does make for a much cleaner look if you are not using it anyway.

It certainly does clean it up. Glad I did it. Now, should I simply use one of the seals that is found on the other end of the cam, or should I get one of those from an 1100/1200 that looks like a funny bowl that completely seals the end of the cam?
I am also hoping the 1100 cover fits the 1000 head, otherwise out comes the aluminum!
I test fit the cover from the left side when I did this on my 1100 and the holes did not line up. I had to make one from some aluminum I had laying around. Also used one of those "funny bowl" seals lightly tapped into the head, don't go too far or it will rub on the cam stub as it spins.
