78 GL 1000 Exhaust header question

#1

Post by rms »

I just purchased some 78 GL 1000 headers off of ebay and in looking them over I noticed a big restriction a inch down from the flange in the forward tube of the right side header,is this normal???,the other three tubes are fine, but this one is almost totally blocked off!,it just doesn't look right.I tried blowing compressed air threw the tube and very little comes out the other end,are these double walled tubes and this one is collapsed?.This is my first Goldwing so I'm in the dark about them.I learned alot from this site but like I said this doesn't look right.I also noticed that for being 78 headers these show very little wear and are in very good condition is this why?.
Thanks RMS

I'm guessing you're right about the collapsed inner wall, I've heard of that on here.

I seem to recall a thread about 2 years old that talked about this same thing. I don't remember what it is called or what the outcome may have been. It had a pic of the pipe in it too. Maybe try a search for restricted exhaust?

Agree. They should be smooth and clean with no restrictions. Hope the seller gave you a return option. If he didn't, I'd email and tell him what you found and ask for a refund. That problem should have been disclosed in the description.

I just got a email from the seller he said he'll take them back :-D .I also took a hammer and blunt chisel to the hump in the tube and it is metal so this thing collapsed big time. Now the search is on for another set.
