'77 front caliper piston source

#1

Post by Patrick M »

Hey lads and laddies.

Anyone have a source for replacement front brake caliper pistons for the '77? I can find all other early years and the rear for the '77, but nothing for the front. Tried Pistol Pete, CyclePsycho, Crescent, Bike Bandit, Service Honda, eBay, and several places I had never heard of. No luck.

I am bound to misspell it but someone will get it right. tausanier or something like that is a long time member here and he makes and sells very high quality replacements.

Here is a link to an excellent source of stainless steel pistons front and rear taken directly from our very own Crossover Parts List forum.

Make sure you mention to Ray that you are a member of this forum and he will grant you a hefty discount from the prices on the web site.

Okay, sent an order request to the email address linked on the site. Given the holiday and all I expect it could be a few days before I hear from him. Thank you again!

That's great information. Since it appears that the pistons for several of the 70's-80's Yamaha models interchange. I have lots of old Yamaha calipers, so I'm going to pop some pistons from them and see if they really are a match. I've got a bunch of 75-77 GL1000 calipers I'd like to rebuild but am short on good pistons.

Thanks!

The source from Sagebrush has a decent variety. I noticed the '78 Yamaha XS750E (one of which I owned and rode for twenty years) uses the same piston as my Wing.

Given my experience, I would say if you can have a supply of early Wing calipers "at the ready" it will be a good thing.

I heard back from the piston guy already - from his skiing holiday, even! He will return on the 4th and process my order then. Airmail from Germany is taking ten days due to the heightened security!
